Designed by world renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus, Bear’s Best is the golf equivalent of a Greatest Hits album with 18 of Nicklaus’ most famous holes compiled into one fascinating par-72 course. Although the terrain is different and the scale may be slightly altered, the holes at Bear’s Best maintain the shot values of the roles they replicate, making for an authentic and varied course. Golfers will be able to play holes currently existing in locations like Florida, Arizona, Spain, Mexico, and California without have to do any traveling. The holes that were chosen also mesh well with the natural topography of the area, so the replicas feel natural as opposed to artificial. The course plays a hefty 7,194 yards from the back tees, and three different tees are available for players of different skill levels.

Though the front nine lacks dramatic elevation changes, the holes have been crafted with unique shaping and ample bunkers to make play challenging and interesting. The first hole makes a big impression, a copy of the 6th hole at the PGA West Private Course. With a large lake running alongside the left side and ample palm trees, the first hole will whisk you away to Palm Springs.

The back nine features more undulating greens and slopes as it moves into the foothills of the Red Rock Mountains. The tenth hole particularly demands an accurate shot with a raised fairway split by a long, plunging bunker. And the 18th wraps up the course in a big way; this tough par-4 features water and sand running along the right side of the fairway and a well-bunkered, elevated and sloping green adjacent to water for a hole that’s visually appealing, yet chock full of challenges.

Bear’s Best prides itself on creating a relaxing environment for its guests, which amounts to knowledgeable forecaddies and golf carts equipped with GPS systems. The 10,000 square-foot clubhouse features a sports memorabilia lounge and grill perfect for relaxing after a long day of golf, and an excellent practice facility offers year round grass tees, five target greens, a short game area, and a complimentary putting green before you tee off. Clubs are also available for rental.
