Until the Wynn Las Vegas came along, visitors to Las Vegas had to venture away from their resort to enjoy a solid game of golf on the Strip. With the Wynn’s completion, however, came not only a luxurious resort, but also an on-site championship course for the golfing, Las Vegas-visiting masses. But this isn’t just a conveniently located golf course; the Wynn Golf and Country Club offers a course so stunning and well-designed that it sets an entirely new standard for courses on the Las Vegas Strip.
With eighteen beautiful holes located right in the resort’s backyard, the Wynn Golf and Country Club is open to anyone who can afford its lofty green fees. A collaboration between Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn himself, the course offers a serene environment remarkably isolated from the rest of the resort, scattered with roughly 1,200 existing pine trees salvaged and relocated from the now-defunct Desert Inn Golf Course – some more than 50 years old and over 60 feet tall. In fact, much of the Desert Inn course grounds were preserved in the Wynn course, giving the relatively new and pristine course a sense of history.
Still, pristine is certainly the word to describe the Wynn Golf and Country Club, which is impressive with a wide array of water features, including lakes and streams, which come into play on 11 holes. In fact, a 37-foot-tall waterfall provides the backdrop for the 18th hole. What’s more impressive, however, are the Wynn’s dramatic elevations, which were once thought impossible to create on the Strip. Nor was it any small feat to create them – over 800,000 cubic yards of earth were to moved to construct the sloping fairways and undulating greens, especially on the first hole which features 45 feet of elevation change from tee to green.
Beauty and impressiveness aside, however, all of the natural elements of the Wynn’s course make for a unique and challenging golf experience, from the natural marshlands to the ample white sandy bunkers and 4,600 feet of streams. With contoured Bermuda fairways and smooth Bentgrass greens, the course runs 7,042 yards from the tees.
And since Wynn is renowned for guest satisfaction, players at the Wynn Golf and Country Club enjoy the availability of food and beverages at holes 9 and 13, along with fully equipped golf carts, and caddies. The course also has its own clubhouse, complete with full-service locker rooms, a pro shop, and a practice green and chipping area.
Players who have the funds should definitely enjoy the beauty – and the marvelous views of the Strip – at the Wynn Golf and Country Club, which is unmatched by any other course on the Strip.
