This restaurant presents the Big Apple’s version of authentic Southwestern cuisine! Gonzalez y Gonzalez originated in New York City, and still has a location there today, so it is no wonder that this restaurant has found its way to the New York-New York Hotel and Casino. Sitting smack-dab in the middle of “the city” at New York-New York, you will feel like you are actually dining in NYC. The outdoor courtyard and interior of the restaurant give off an up-beat vibe with colorful hanging lanterns and piñatas. The colorful lights and stucco walls give you a true southwestern feel and set the tone for the authentic south of the border cuisine to come.
Gonzalez y Gonzalez serves classic Mexican cuisine, but does so with the utmost consistency in taste, flavor, and presentation. If you love Mexican food, then this restaurant is the perfect place for you! The appetizers here are your typical Mexican fare, including mini-chimis, fajita nachos, and empanadas. Another wonderful appetizer treat here is the guacamole-fresca, which is made tableside to suit your taste using fresh avocados, tomatoes, jalapenos, and chopped cilantro. If you are looking for something lighter to start with, perhaps you will want to try the grilled chicken tortilla soup or a nice starter salad. But, don’t spoil your appetite on just the appetizers; the entrees are delicious and plentiful! The prices at this establishment do not reflect the portion size, by any means! The food is reasonably priced and the portions are large! They serve your favorite Mexican classics such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, and more. Can’t make up your mind on which to choose? Try their combo dishes, which allow you to create your own meal by choosing two to three of your classic favorites. Besides the typical Mexican fare, there are Gonzalez y Gonzalez specialty dishes, as well. Some of the specialty dishes are the red chile pork tenderloin, the blue corn chicken, steak picado, and habanero rubbed baby back ribs. Most entrees are served with refried beans and rice.
But, what is Southwestern cuisine without a classic margarita?! You will not want to overlook their tequila or drink menu. With over 50 different types of tequila offered, you will be tempted into ordering one of their fabulous margaritas. Try the Sky High Frozen margaritas, served in a yard-long souvenir glass! They come in great flavors such as traditional lemon and lime, peach, strawberry, banana, raspberry, and mango.
