KÀ ™ by Cirque du Soleil ®
The drums of war sound, as the classic struggle between love and war collide in KÀ ™ by Cirque du Soleil ® at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. With an engaging narrative, the hand-to-hand combat, pyrotechnics, and puppetry are just a bonus accompaniment to a well choreographed cinematic thrill ride that also includes comedy, romance, and special effects. It’s the dynamic stages that allow the story to transition seamlessly from one scene to the next. Making KÀ ™ the most technically advanced live show in the world. It’s like watching the film, The Matrix, but live and in real time. Out of all the Las Vegas shows, this one will definitely have you at awe.
The Stage
There is no traditional stage for KÀ ™. Instead, it has a slender boardwalk that separates the audience from what seems to be an empty void, which is the blank canvas of the show. Within that nothingness, stage platforms appear, disappear, lift, rotate and always active with the story to enhance the narrative. The stage can be rotated 360 degrees and raised almost at a 90 degree angle allowing stunning gravity-defying stunts and unique viewing angles that will make you stop blinking. One scene involves a sinking ship and after boat is submerged in an instant the stage is set to replicate an underwater atmosphere where the characters start a vertical swim to the top of the theater. The immense size of the KÀ ™ Theatre accommodates these settings and large moving stages with ease and compliments the grandeur of the show.
Acts
Scaling mountains while archers bombard you with arrows is easy to survive. It’s falling from about 10 stories high and having to rely on the arrows stuck on the deck that’s the challenge. The KÀ ™ acrobatic performers make pole swinging and aerial acrobatics within an ever moving stage and center of gravity flow as they add a mix of Capoeira dancing and other martial arts to their precise choreography. KÀ ™ not only stellar acrobatics and action like the wheel of death and bungee stunts, but the beach scene provides lots of lovable comedic characters and puppetry. The show really takes puppetry to a new level. There’s a hut that transforms into a human-powered flying machine that soars above the audience and a forest scene that includes a 24-foot snake, but the most impressive form a puppetry in the show is the shadow puppets. The movements are so realistic that it’s a joy to watch every time.
The combat and acrobatics while the stage rotates and the gravity shifts make KÀ ™ one of the most unique live shows you can experience in Las Vegas. It’s fun if you want to see daring feats, pyrotechnics and puppetry or if you want to see a coming of age story with love and conflict. Either way, KÀ ™ is imagination at its best.
