In exile, the young cub befriends the hilarious Pumba the warthog and Timon the meerkat and learns their motto of carefree life, "Hakuna Matata." However, as Simba approaches adulthood, he realizes what he has left behind and that he must reclaim his destiny as king of Pride Rock.

The winner of more than 70 major awards worldwide, including the Tony Award and NY Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, The Lion King was originally directed by Julie Taymor, who wrote additional lyrics for the musical and designed its amazing costumes and creatures. The Lion King makes the African savannah come alive through a colorful array of masks and puppets, and the audience will be drawn onto the savannah with them through an exhilarating musical score. Featuring all of Elton John and Tim Rice's songs from the animated film as well as three new songs by the composers, The Lion King fuses Western popular music with the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa.
