The Emmy award winning American standup comedian and actress will be taking the stage right here on the Las Vegas Strip; for a short-run from November 14-15 at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. Best known for her blunt observations about everything from current events to differences between the races and the sexes to life in general, Wanda is sure to have you laughing out loud!
Born in Portsmouth, VA, Wanda knew from a fairly young age that she wanted to be a comedian and make people laugh for a living. After having graduated college, Wanda entered herself into a Washington D.C. talent competition, where she lost but soon realized that she had a true passion for performing and comedy. Her passion for comedy took her to where most comedians are first discovered, the Big Apple. New York City was where her big break arrived, in 1992, when she was hired to be the opening act for Chris Rock. Chris Rock and Wanda Sykes really clicked when it came to comedy, so Chris soon after hired Wanda as one of his writers for his show’s writing staff. Wanda wrote for the “Chris Rock Show” for years, until she finally landed her own TV show gig.
In 2003, Wanda stared in “Wanda at Large” on the FOX network. Unfortunately her TV run was short-lived, but people immediately picked up on her innate talent for making people laugh. Wanda soon followed in numerous solo Comedy Central specials, including “Tongue Untied.” She also hosted shows like “Inside the NFL,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” and “Crank Yankers.” Her comedy TV ventures lead her to a main role on the hit TV show “The New Adventures of Old Christine” in 2006, working with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Wanda has also lent her voice to numerous cartoon characters over the years in on-screen films, including Over the Hedge, Barnyard, and Brother Bear 2. She has also been featured in movies such as Pootie Tang, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Evan Almighty, and License to Wed.
