Just like its title, Zumanity brings with it a world of mystery. This performance is much more than you’re average Cirque du Soleil show which is usually bright, wholesome, and family friendly. Zumanity will open your eyes to a sensual side of human culture that is normally suppressed and unexplored. Make no mistake, the show is about sex! However, Zumanity can be described as nothing less than a piece of art and the subject matter is discussed tastefully.

Unlike most Cirque du Soleil shows, Zumanity is set in an intimate theater that utilizes a thrust stage. Zumanity also steps away from the circus-like performance that you might expect and takes on the feel of a cabaret. The characters, which are spread widely among different areas of race, age, gender, and sexuality, are intriguing and at times even a bit strange. The concept behind Zumanity is to bring our attention to the primal ways in which humans might act if we too were creatures of the wild, feelings we often keep hidden in our civilized culture.

Zumanity keeps in tradition with other Cirque du Soleil shows in that the performers will amaze you with their physical skill. One act, entitled “Waterbowl” is a beautiful display of two women swimming simultaneously in a round tank. They twist and turn their bodies, weaving in and out of each other like two eel trapped in a tiny fishbowl. Intensity builds until the final act, during which characters will appear from all parts of the theater and bring the audience into their arousing conclusion, appropriately titled “Orgy."

So let loose, play, laugh, flirt, tease, and taunt your way into this climactic event. You just might learn that the beings who reside in Zumanity are not that much different from yourself.
