One of the only historically significant chapels in Las Vegas, the Little Churchl of the West is a quaint redwood chapel designed to look like a typical pioneer town church. Listed on the US National Register of Historic Places, the chapel is the oldest structure on the Las Vegas Strip (it has been open since 1942) and has hosted a vast amount of celebrity weddings, including those of Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Judy Garland, Robert Goulet, Dudley Moore, Mickey Rooney, and more.
Though the chapel is old and certainly looks it on the outside, its grounds are well-maintained, and its interior is clean and nicely decorated. The shining red wood walls and ceilings, stained glass windows, white drapery, and large candelabras create a simple but elegant setting. If the chapel suffers from anything, it is an overdose of wood – the organ is wood, the pews are wood, and the altar is wooden as well. But the effect is quaint, old, and highly preferable over some of the newer chapels’ more modern and shoddy décor. The chapel is small, seating 50 to 75 guests, which is the perfect size for an intimate ceremony with family and loved ones.
The Little Churchl of the West offers five packages for traditional weddings and renewal ceremonies. The list of features offered is not as extensive as at other chapels, but all the basics are covered, such as photography, videography, flowers, music, witnesses, limousine service, and wedding announcements. There is also a dressing room, but it’s available only a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be reserved, so it’s recommended that brides arrive early if they intend to use it. Though people rave about the chapel’s interior and beautiful landscape, the chapel does tend to be busy on the weekends, with many ceremonies occurring in one day and not much time in between them. Because of this, you may want to look elsewhere if you want an elaborate and lengthy ceremony. However, if you desire a simple ceremony in a beautiful and historic setting, the Little Church of the West is a charming location.
