Stars Will Flood Vegas for the 2009 NHL Awards

It’s a good thing there isn’t actually going to be any hockey playing when the 2009 NHL Awards come to the Palms this month, because the hot celebrities and entertainment coming for this star-studded ceremony would surely make the ice melt. The National Hockey League is bringing its spectacular awards celebration to Sin City for the first time, and on board with the event will be some of the biggest names in music, stage, screen, and of course, the NHL.

On Thursday, June 18, the NHL will honor its best performers at the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Casino Hotel. The awards will be broadcast in HD on Versus in the US at 7:30 pm and on CBC in Canada at 8:30 pm local time. And aside from handing out awards like the Art Ross Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy, the awards show will feature performances by multi-platinum R&B star Robin Thicke and the legendary, Grammy award-winning Chaka Khan.

Those watching the awards show from home or from the sidelines can expect to see some famous fans on the red carpet, including Snoop Dogg, Michael Buble, William Fictner of Prison Break and Blades of Glory, Colin Ferguson of Eureka, Tricia Helfer of Battlestar Galactica and Burn Notice, and Lauren Holly of NCIS and Dumb & Dumber.

Several stars of the ice are also scheduled to appear, such as Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green, the Pittsburg Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin, Detroit Red Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom, the Chicago Blackhawks’ Kris Versteeg, Boston Bruins’ Zdeno Chara and Tim Thomas, the Philadelphia Flyers’ Mike Richards, and many more.

Meanwhile, NHL players from past and present will participating in the awards show, including Tony Esposito, Sergei Fedorov, Ron Francis, Doug Gilmour, Kelly Hrudey, Pat LaFontaine, Igor Larionov, Brian Leetch, Reggie Lemelin, Mark Messier, Stan Mikita, Andy Moog, Joe Nieuwendyk, Luc Robitaille and Jeremy Roenick. Former NHL coach Pat Burns also is scheduled to present.

And after the show, things get even hotter at the Palms Pool and Rain nightclub, where the NHL Awards Party will kick off with a performance by Canadian buzz band Arkells.

Players, coaches, presenters, and other VIPs will arrive on the red carpet at the Palms beginning at 3:15 pm on June 18, and NHL.com will air streaming broadcasts of all the high-profile arrivals.

Seeing as how this is the first NHL Awards show in Las Vegas, if all goes well, it could bring many more NHL events to the neon city! Rumors are abuzz that the NHL is considering holding its annual player draft in Las Vegas as well. As always, stay tuned to BestOfVegas.com for more news on this, along with all the hottest events in Las Vegas.
