2010 Elvis Week in Vegas

Vegas is “all shook up” this week as the city celebrates the life and death of one of its most prominent and influential entertainers.

As previously reported, August 16th marked the 33rd anniversary of The King’s passing, and the city he once called home is spending the week paying tribute to the entertainer. On Monday Madame Tussauds celebrated Elvis Presley by offering free admission to anybody who dressed like The King. The wax museum also hosted an Elvis Tribute and had a live DJ playing hit songs and “Sing with the King” karaoke.

But aside from Madame Tussauds’ tribute on Monday, there are still plenty more Elvis events (and possibly spottings) happening in Vegas for the remainder of the week. For Elvis fans or just visitors looking for a new Vegas experience, we’ve put together a list of places we recommend you visit to experience everything about The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

First up on our list is the Imperial Palace where you can check out “Legends in Concert.” The show features Las Vegas legends who have made Sin City what it is today and as you can imagine Elvis Presley is heavily referenced in the show. And this week, Elvis tribute artist Matt Lewis closes the show. He’s been performing in the Vegas show for eight years and has some of the best moves in town!

Over at Aria, you can experience Cirque du Soleil’s version of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll during Viva Elvis. The show features singers, dancers and gymnasts who convey Cirque’s unique interpretation of Elvis’ life and music.

After catching up on a little Elvis history have  a drink in the same place you might’ve seen The King over 30 years ago. The Gold Lounge, also in Aria, is decked out in gold and dark colors and is just as grandiose as one of Elvis’ jeweled jumpsuits.

After your Elvis inspired drink, mosey on over to Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon for one of the best Elvis impersonators of all time. Pete Vallee makes Elvis come alive a “Big Elvis.” Performing at the hotel for more than eight years, Vallee has become a local favorite as well as a must-see stop for Elvis fans. Perhaps the best part of Vallee’s impersonation is that it’s free and includes a vast catalog of Elvis hits spanning rock, country, gospel, R&B and pop music.

Whatever way you decide to remember Elvis Presley this week, make sure you at least visit Viva Elvis or Legends in Concert. Both shows are a wonderful tribute to a man that helped shape Vegas into the place it is today, entertainment capital of the world!
