The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show opened here yesterday to a record breaking 3,100 exhibitors at the Las Vegas Convention Center ready to show off their cutting-edge products including ultrabooks, voice and gesture-based technologies, smartphones and OLED TV’s. The 2012 International CES runs through Friday, Jan. 13 at the Las Vegas Convention center and several Las Vegas hotels. “With more than 3,100 companies showcasing more than 20,000 new products, the 2012 International CES is the world’s largest hub for consumer technology innovation,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “The pre-show media events, which drew record numbers, created tremendous buzz as the world awaits the next generation of technology that is launching here at CES this week. From ultrabooks to digital health products to connected TVs, the innovation at the 2012 CES will be nothing short of amazing, as attendees witness ground-breaking products spanning one of the largest show floors in CES history.” Just to give you a comparison, the 2011 CES featured 2,865 exhibitors across 1.65 million net square feet while the 2012 CES show floor covers 1.851 million net square feet of exhibit space. That’s more than 37 football fields filled with consumer technology! And with a record number of exhibitors comes some big technological advancement news. Yesterday, Microsoft President and CEO Steve Ballmer delivered a pre-CES keynote address, featuring “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest as the celebrity host at the Venetian. Ballmer announced that Microsoft Kinect will come to Windows on February 1, 2012. Today, the big news came from Intel who announced their move into the smartphone market and announced alliances with Lenovo and Motorola Mobility. The Intel chief executive, Paul Otellini showed off the K800, a new device from the Chinese PC maker Lenovo that is expected to launch later this year. Other Keynote speakers for the week include Hans Vestberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ericcson at The Venetian, Level 5, Palazzo Ballroom; AT&T’s David Christopher, General Electric’s Beth Comstock, Facebook’s Carolyn Everson, Walmart’s Stephen Quinn, Hyundai’s Steve Shannon and Unilever’s Keith Weed at the Las Vegas Hilton and many more. And even though the 2012 CES isn’t open to the public, you can still enjoy some of the technological fun with the incredible stages, stunts and effects at The Venetian’s most popular shows like Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular and Blue Man Group. Or laugh with headliner David Spade who’ll be at the Las Vegas hotel just as CES ends, this Friday and Saturday.
