Aid for AIDS Fundraising Event

Las Vegas locals, celebrities and guests are invited to help raise money for Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) for the next several months. AFAN has come up with some creative ways to spread the word and raise money for people suffering from the disease in Southern Nevada.

AFAN is currently asking the community to Adopt a Piggy! The Piggys may be adopted in the AFAN offices or online at the AFAN website. The 5-inch ceramic Piggy banks are each personalized with a birth certificate. All you have to do is fatten those piggy’s up with whatever change or bills you have lying around and on World AIDS Day on December 1, bring the Piggys back to AFAN headquarters with a full tummy, and all money raised will benefit those affected with HIV/AIDS in Southern Nevada.

In addition to the piggy banks, AFAN plans to host a “Pig Out” at a local restaurant once a month.  For this even guest will bring their piggy banks to be emptied and receive a discount coupon for the restaurant. AFAN will keep track of the funds so your Piggy gets credit. Stay tuned for the Las Vegas restaurants that will be participating in the “Pig Out” event.

During the “Pig Out” events AFAN will be selling tickets to their annual Black & White Party. The party is at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel for the second consecutive year from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on August 21. This year the hosts will be So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy and Chris Saldana with Channel 8 News.

AFAN will also be hosting a Night of Cabaret in October and a Kids Holiday Toy Drive in December. This Year’s Night of Cabaret information should be announced later this month.

AFAN was founded in 1984 and is the oldest and largest AIDS service organization in Nevada. Last year marked the 25th anniversary of practicing their unyielding commitment to the community by providing unparalleled health expertise, support and advocacy for adults and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Nevada.

We hope you’ll come out to at least one of these events to support AFAN. Buying a piggy bank and filling it with spare change is an easy way to help support a cause and if you’re more into dining out at one of Las Vegas’ famed restaurants, the “Pig Out” events are sure to be exciting evenings.  Of course I’ll provide more information as the events draw near but until then purchase one of those piggy banks and help your fellow community members of Southern Nevada who may be suffering from HIV or AIDS.
