And the 2010 Miss Universe Is…

The 2010 Miss Universe was live at Mandalay Bay last night and the 83 contestants all did a wonderful job of representing their country. But there could only be one winner and as the night unfolded everybody’s eyes were on Miss Mexico. But before we launch into the winner, here is a breakdown of the night.

Before the pageant even started Miss Universe President Paula Shugart was overheard saying there are already talks for the Miss USA Pageant to return to Las Vegas next May.

“I love our pageants being in Las Vegas. We move Miss Universe around each year but would love to do it again here.” And after the night’s successful show, we’re sure Las Vegas would love to have both Miss USA and Miss Universe join them again in May.

But first let’s talk about the final fifteen. Miss Puerto Rico Mariana Vicente, Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska, Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete, Miss Belgium Cilou Annys, Miss Ireland Rozanna Purcell, Miss South Africa Nicole Flint, Miss France Malika Menard, Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, Miss Russia Irina Antoneko, Miss Romania Onana Paveluc, Miss Colombia Natalia Navarro, Miss Guatemala Jessica Torres, Miss Czech Republic JItka Valkova and Miss Philippines Venus Raj. Unfortunately Miss USA did not move on like we all hoped she would, but nonetheless it was still quite a show!

Judges included Niki Taylor, William Baldwin, Chynna Philips, Evan Lysacek, Tamron Hall, Chazz Palminteri, Jane Seymour, Criss Angel and Sheila E, and Las Vegas’ own Viva Elvis even took the stage during the bikini swimsuit competition.

After a quick commercial break it was down to the final ten which included Miss Ireland, Miss Albania, Miss Philippines, Miss Jamaica, Miss Mexico, Miss Ukraine, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss South Africa, Miss Guatemala and Miss Australia.

Then it was the evening gown portion of the show.  The ten contestants were stunning as they worked the stage in their glittery, flowy dresses. Six-time Grammy winner John Legend and The Roots performed as the ladies strolled across the stage.

Finally the final five were revealed; Miss Mexico, Miss Australia, Miss Jamaica, Miss Ukraine and Miss Philippines.

And the toughest part of the evening began as the judges each asked the ladies a different question. Evan Lysacek asked Miss Mexico about unsupervised internet use. Niki Taylor asked Miss Australia about religion on clothing. Tamron Hall asked Miss Jamaica about the death penalty. Jane Seymour asked Miss Ukraine about full body scanners at the airport. And William Baldwin asked Miss Philippines about the biggest mistake she has made in her life and how she fixed it.

After much deliberation the judges named Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete as the 2010 Miss Universe winner!
