Bachelor Curse Back in Action

It seems that almost every couple that has starred on ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette has called it quits before even making it to the alter. Now one more couple is joining the list. The first British bachelor, Matt Grant, star of The Bachelor: London Calling has called off the wedding with actress Shayne Lamas who was the winner of the show and the final rose recipient. On the season final of the show, which aired earlier this year, Grant presented Lamas with a 2.85-carat diamond ring and asked for her hand in marriage. Lamas graciously accepted his offer. However, it seemed there was relationship for the couple early on. Reports of trouble in paradise surfaced early on in the relationship and after the paparazzi began photographing Lamas without her counterpart in Las Vegas almost nightly, rumors began to intensify. There were also reports that Shayne Lamas was having a secret Las Vegas romance but nothing was ever confirmed.
Last month Grant admitted that he moved out of Shayne Lamas’ studio city apartment claiming that it was just too small for the both of them and the couple was still “testing” their relationship. The couple even appeared on a reunion episode of The Bachelorette last month and declared that they were still together and very much in love while laughing off the rumors about splitting up.
As recently as last week, Shayne Lamas was photographed out in Las Vegas without Grant at the opening of Carey Hart’s new nightclub Wasted Space. Lamas has also been spotted out all over town without Matt at Las Vegas nightclubs like LAX recently. Shortly after their television appearance the couple announced their split to PEOPLE Magazine.
From the beginning, insiders claimed that Shayne Lamas and Matt Grant were both in it only for the publicity. Shayne herself is an aspiring actress and many believed that she needed to the extra 15 minutes that she given during the couple’s rocky two-month engagement. Grant, however, was a successful businessman in London before moving to California and probably didn’t need publicity, meaning that he probably was just going along for the ride.
As of today only one of the Bachelor/Bachelorette couples have made it down the aisle, Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter. But, they seem to be ONLY ones out of the MANY seasons of the show that have avoided the “Bachelor curse,” the term being used repeatedly by the media. Now all the world has to do it wait for next seasons show and hope for the best. Let’s keep our fingers crossed this time. (Sigh)
