She’s been called schmaltzy, brash, charming, witty, bawdy, and not least of all, divine. But this Sunday, Bette Midler can also be called a long-lasting Vegas headliner as she celebrates the performance of her 100th show at Caesars Palace. The Showgirl Must Go On has been enjoying sold-out audiences and critical acclaim since it opened on the Strip on February 20, 2008. And armed with her Caesars Salad Girls and her back-up singers, the Harlettes, the showgirl herself seems to be loving every minute of it – as does the audience.
Since no showgirl celebrates alone, new Caesars Palace sweet spot Serendipity 3 will be offering fans the opportunity to create a special sundae for the Divine Miss M – or as she likes to be called, “The People’s Diva.” Fans can check out The Showgirl Must Go On’s Facebook page to get details on how to submit a sundae recipe for the chance to win tickets to the show. Once the winning sundae has been selected, it’ll be on sale through the end of June at the New York-imported restaurant and dessert shop.
In addition, on June 7, the first 100 guests to dine at Serendipity 3 will receive a free frozen hot chocolate, the restaurant’s signature offering, with the purchase of an entrée.
Meanwhile, Midler herself will have plenty of surprises in store for those in the crowd during her 100th performance this Sunday. And after the show, sources say the cast and crew will toast to the show’s success with a champagne reception in Restaurant Guy Savoy’s new Krug champagne lounge.
Though the 100th show certainly marks a big milestone for Bette, it certainly won’t be the last. Midler is contracted for two years of performances on the Colosseum stage, where she celebrated her first anniversary last February. The Showgirl Must Go On combines Midler’s extensive catalog of hits, from songs like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” to “Wind Beneath My Winds,” with a 13-piece band, a glittering, fantastically Vegas set, and a healthy dose of the warm yet bawdy humor that makes Midler’s such a beloved performer. And if the positive reviews weren’t enough indication that the show is doing well, its sales rankings certainly prove it – Midler has consistently been one of the top two selling shows in Las Vegas for months.
The Showgirl Must Go On performs roughly 100 times a year, five nights a week at 7:30 pm. If you haven’t yet seen Midler do what she does best in a razzle-dazzle setting perfectly suited to the diva’s personality, don’t put it off for another minute.
