Ok, we will admit that this is a pretty obscure holiday to get excited about in America. However, don’t forget that this is Las Vegas and we will look for absolutely any excuse to party in anyway that we can! So, “Viva Brazil!” Although, here at BestOfVegas.com, we would love to take credit for discovering this party holiday ourselves! But, SUSHISAMBA has beaten us to the punch. Their Independence Day extravaganza will take place Sunday September 7, 2008. Marked by specialty drinks, treats, and even Brazil’s famous capoeira dance. The celebration will begin in the evening with live performances at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The menu for the event will include specials like flashed pickled belize sweet shrimp, organic chicken wings wrapped in bacon, roasted duck breast, and other traditional Brazilian cuisine. Although the food will always be the star of the show at SUSHISAMBA, this restaurant is famous for their signature cocktails and they’ve come up with a special one just to celebrate the occasion. Sip on a Bandeira as you watch the show and feel like you are from the desert. What’s a Bandeira, you ask? This drink is a sweet and refreshing mix of pinot grigio, cachaca, pineapple juice, and lots of muddled fruit! Sort of what you might get if a mojito and a glass of sangria had a love child.
The country of Brazil separated from Portugal in 1822 when the Prince of Brazil, Pedro Alvares Cabral, declared “Independencia ou Morte” (Independence or Death)! The holiday has been one of the most celebrated holidays in Brazil ever since. The tradition of Brazil will be alive at SUSHISAMBA, located at the Shoppes at the Palazzo (one of the most upscale shopping and dining centers in Las Vegas). SUSHISAMBA is both a restaurant and a popular nightspot which fuses Japanese sushi and sashimi with the flavors and techniques of Brazilian cuisine to create an exciting mix for your taste buds. The dining area of SUSHISAMBA looks like it’s decorated for a party every day of the year. Bright yellow, orange, and red colors splash the walls and complement the oversized artwork and sculptures that are the focal point of the restaurant>
The live performances will consist mostly of drummers and dancers dressed in sexy Brazilian themed costumes. Dancers will perform the capoeira, which is a mix of martial arts, games, and dance that originated in several different regions of Brazil in the 16th century. Dancers get into a circle and play instruments as two of the dancers step into the center of the circle and perform martial arts. However, most of these dances, in modern day, are stylized and no one is actually fighting or trying to hurt another artist. Between the drinks, food, and live performances this party will be as traditional and as it is festive. Possibly the best party SUSHISAMBA has ever seen... Except the BestOfVegas.com launch party, of course!
