Celebrity Rant: End of February Part II

The ranting continues…and it only gets jucier!

There are TONS of grand openings to celebrate! First of all, we need to celebrate the reopening of the Monte Carlo that has been completely revamped! They have redone the carpets and even some of the rooms. They are gradually opening up the hotel, a little at a time. While on their fire-hiatus, the hotel suffered an estimated loss of just under $100 million (eek!). Congratulations to magician Lance Burton who is finally back in action, as well! Burton’s show is hosted at the Monte Carlo.

The second reopening is that of artist Mario Barth’s new Starlight Tattoo Parlor at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. To help him celebrate, famous fans Dave Navarro, Tommy Lee, Ice-T, Ja Rule, Victoria Gotti, Stephen Dorff, Vivica A. Fox, Criss Angel, Carrot Top, and Evan Seinfeld were all invited to the inking affair.

The MOST anticipated opening of the month, and, maybe even the year was that of Bette Midler’s new show at Caesars! Just a side fact, she will be using Frank Sinatra’s grand piano for the entire run. The piano was refurbished just for this show! The celebrities piled up for the event! Celebrities Siegfried and Roy, Lance Bass & Joey Fatone of *N SYNC, Ricky Lake, Meatloaf, Rita Rudner, co-star to Bette in Gypsy Christine Ebersole, and Alan Thicke were all in attendance for the monumental event! It is rumored that Bette Midler lost her shoe right before going out on stage…must be a form of Vegas good luck because the SAME thing happened to Celine Dion before her first Sin City performance. PURE nightclub was SWAMPED with people wanting to get in to see Bette Midler and her closest celebrity friends at her post-party of the show. BREAK A LEG BETTE! Best of luck to her and her cast!

MANY exciting tid-bits of information about Vegas shows were announced this month! The first thing, I found out was that Criss Angel is opening his own Cirque du Soleil show this summer in Vegas at the Luxor. Take Angel’s magical illusions and combine it with a “cirque-esque” style performance, the show is proving to be something truly worth waiting for! It was created for nearly $200 million, so you bet your bottom dollar it will be worth every penny to snag a seat! Another exciting show announcement is that Wayne Brady’s contract with the Venetian has been extended until the end of next July. Vegas just CANNOT get enough of the funny man, and we can’t either! Also, Blue Man Group is set to perform at the pre-race events for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Weekend. Las but not least, our local Vegas celebrities Priscilla Presley and Penn Jillette will become NATIONAL celebrities on Dancing With The Stars. They will be competing on the 6th season of the ABC hit series! Make sure to tune in and watch all the Vegas celebs! It will be interesting to see how Penn makes room for practice time with his hit Vegas show still going on!

FREE weddings, with a celebrity as your best man? ONLY in Vegas! Mario Lopez, of Dancing With The Stars, was the best man for 19 couples at the Yahoo’s 24-Hour Wedding Ceremony at the Hard Rock Hotel. The event was part of the promotion for the new Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry Chocolate drink. Helping to host the event with Lopez was Pauly Shore. The weddings were FREE and completely legal, provided with a legitimate pastor. The couples could pick from three themes: rock and roll with Elvis, traditional white wedding, or a cherry chocolate theme. Pauly Shore went on to play celebrity doorman at Prive nightclub later that night. Also in the club was Ice-T, Ja Rule, David Spade, Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees, Stacy Keibler of Dancing With The Stars, and House of Pain. The next night David Spade did a repeat at Prive by partying again, but this time with Nas, Zab Judah (a boxer), and Mario Lopez, with his Dancing With the Stars friend Katarina Smirnoff.

BUT, no one is getting as much buzz as Ms. Paris Hilton. The heiress celebrated her 27th birthday in-style but out of her clothes! This was a side of Paris none of us had EVER seen! Yes, that’s right! What better way to spend your birthday than performing a strip tease in Vegas! Paris performed for almost over an hour in two separate performances at Pure nightclub at Caesars. Paris danced with the Pussycat Dolls, wearing black leather and matching hat, and she even sported a white barely-there outfit in an oversized champagne glass. But this night was not ALL about Paris. Paris partied among the stars for 6-LONG NIGHTS! She was seen with Kristin Cavallari, Travis Barker, her sister Nicky Hilton, Jeremy Jackson of Baywatch, Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, and many more! Paris frolicked in and out of all of the top clubs in Vegas: PURE, LAX, etc. Comedian and host of Deal or No Deal Howie Mandel was seen shopping at the Miracle Mile Shops. That same night, Paris Hilton squeezed in one more night of partying at Bank nightclub at the Bellagio. Paris sipped Dom Perignon the entire night as she sang along to the songs that played, including her own singles.

The Celebrities were dishing out some serious cash…no not on booze, bars, clubs, or bling…but for charity! Numerous celebrities played in a celebrity poker tournament held at Caesars. The event raised nearly $100,000 for the Opportunity Village charity. In attendance were Carrot Top, The Scintas, Bobby Slayton, the Hooters girls, the dancers from the Fantasy revue, the Vegas Thunder From Down Under stars, and even Robin Leach!

It looks like the celebrities of Sin City have had QUITE a month here in Vegas! So many exciting things to look forward to for the coming year! I cannot wait to see how things play out here on the Strip! Thanks for reading the Celebrity Rant and I’ll see you in MARCH!
