What better way to ring in the New Year than in a town FULL of celebrities? Happy 2008 everyone! It is a brand new year, which means a brand new year FULL of celebrity news and sightings in Sin City!
I think the celebrities partied a little TOO hard for New Years Eve because they didn’t seem to emerge out onto the Strip until the second week in January. Superman came to the rescue for all of our celebrity gossip needs on January 11th, faster than a speeding bullet! Dean Cain was seen at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino playing cards. He was then seen later that night at Body English for gal-pal Amy Sacco’s 40th birthday party. Celebrities seemed to follow Superman’s lead, because the celebrities just started pouring in to Sin City!
Vin Diesel followed in Superman’s footsteps by coming to Vegas, ready to party! He was seen at BANK nightclub dancing, smoking, and fending off female fans left and right (PS: From the video footage I saw…Diesel cannot dance…swaying at best…)! A few days after, Boxer Mike Tyson was seen in the VIP section of PURE nightclub. Mike has become an avid visitor to the Las Vegas party scene.
Not only did the celebrities come out to Vegas in full-force but the teeny-boppers came flocking in when they heard two words…HANNAH MONTANA! That’s right! America’s newest pop sensation took over the Strip for her concert dates on January 18th and 19th at the MGM Grand. Before the concert, Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana is her alter-ego) was seen at Seigfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage playing trainer for a day with her family at the dolphin area. John Mayer was actually spotted at the concert! I guess the celebrities love Hannah Montana?!
The last few weeks of January were celebrity crazy! After announcing her retirement from her well-known profession, Jenna Jameson was seen performing a modified strip-tease for boyfriend Tito Ortiz at his birthday celebration at CatHouse. Jenna jumped out of a giant cake wearing a sparkling brassiere, black and pink underwear with matching thigh highs, and a black hat. Down the street at Planet Hollywood, 52 girls were prancing around in ball gowns, bikinis, and talent-wear. Yes! Of course I am talking about the ever popular Miss America Pageant. Kirsten Haglund, Miss Michigan, took the crown at the event and looks forward to reigning throughout 2008! Planet Hollywood was yet again action-packed with another event, the World Premiere of Rambo. Big name celebrities were in attendance including: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Biggs, Shirlu Brener, Japanese comedian Jimon Terakado, Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson, Jenna Jameson (clothed this time), Tito Ortiz, the entire cast of Rambo, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If you are single, then Vegas is the place to be (keep this in mind for Valentine’s Day!). Newly single Eddie Murphy was seen at BANK dancing, wearing a navy suit, sunglasses, and a matching navy beret (LAME outfit if you ask me…). Michael Jackson has been shacked up in Vegas at the Palms Hotel and Casino for nearly two months now. A source says that the King of Pop has actually been house hunting here in Vegas (he just can’t get enough of Sin City!). During his stay here, he has been seen at the IMAX 3D Theater, Ronn Lucas’ ventriloquist show, and the Luxor Hotel.
So, as you can see Vegas WAS mildly tame (minus Jenna Jameson’s strip tease)…that is UNTIL the end of the month. The celebrities were back out in full force, finally getting over the New Year’s hangover. Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Reggie Bush were hosting a party at Prive Nightclub towards the end of the month. In attendance were Eddie Murphy, the cast of Entourage including Kevin Dillon and Kevin Connolly, Boxers Zab Judah, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mario Lopez, Stacey Keibler, Adrian Brody, Anthony Michael Hall, and MySpace mogul Tom Anderson. Kevin Dillon had been in town in order to help open McFadden’s Irish Pub at the RIO Hotel. Dillon was not drinking Guinness alone at the event. Also in attendance to the pub opening were America’s Next Top Model finalists Mercedes Yvette and April Wilkner, Penn & Teller, Nathan Burton, the X Girls from the Vegas show Burlesque, and Murray Shawchuck.
Girls really do just want to have fun in Vegas! Ashanti hosted her CD-Release Party at PURE nightclub at the end of January! In attendance to the soiree were Mike Tyson, players for the NHL Colorado Avalanche, NHL San Jose Sharks, Marcus Washington of the Washington Redskins, and Simeon Rice. Tiffani Thiessen of Saved by the Bell and 90210 celebrated her birthday in a BIG way! In Vegas, Thiessen first went to dinner at Social House restaurant, having sushi, chicken salad, and toasting to Sake. She then continued her birthday bash at PURE nightclub, where she was greeted by the barely dressed Las Vegas Pussy Cat Dolls. Tatyana Ali was also at the club in the VIP Lounge. The opening of Hats! The Musical filled the streets of Vegas with yet more women, but all dressed in purple and red! Lifetime-members of the Red Hat Society gathered to celebrate the opening of the show based on their “sorority” that embraces life over age 50. Celebrities in attendance included comedian Rita Rudner and singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester.
But don’t forget the gentlemen of Vegas! It was a “guy’s night out” at the Luxor! At club LAX, fighters and boxers alike gathered to celebrate a weekend full of fight nights! Mike Swick, Josh Burkman, Randy Couture, Gray Maynard, Jay Heiron, Manny Gamburyan, David Terrell, Patrick Cole, and Tito Ortiz all took shots of Sake and ate sushi at Social House before heading to LAX to party until the break of dawn! Also in attendance was Jenna Jameson, girlfriend to Ortiz. One of the stars of the night was legendary boxer Mike Tyson who made a cameo appearance on the scene. Also in attendance to the night were Criss Angel, poker players Phil Ivey and David Williams, members of System of a Down, Kerry Simon, soccer star Cobi Jones, Jay Fiedler, and Vegas sensation Carrot Top! Also, NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon and Kansas City Chief’s player Larry Johnson were spotted at N9NE Steakhouse wining and dining with friends and companions.
It seems as if 2008 is off to a great start in the world of celebrities. Eating, drinking, being merry, and performing strip teases? Yes, 2008 will be a great year to check up on the celebs!
