After a brief hiatus…the Ranting Redhead is back! I know you’ve missed me and I sure missed you! Who else was I going to blab to about everything going on here on the Las Vegas Strip? It is setting up to be QUITE a summer here in Vegas…
As the days in Vegas are getting hotter, so are the nights! The celebrities are flocking to the Strip…and in full-force! Rapper Nelly performed his first concert in over three years at the Red Rock Resort. He was joined by baller Allen Iverson, rapper Chingy, Jermaine Dupri, Akon, LeBron James, and MORE! That same week, rapper Lil Jon held one of the craziest parties to date for the year! It was called Jet’s 1st Annual Crunk Cup Ball (how appropriate for Lil Jon). The Vegas party elite raised their “crunk cups” of Patron tequila as they celebrated at the bash with the infamous diamond and gold encrusted grin of Lil Jon! It is Vegas after all, so blinged out grills and glasses are fully encouraged. Outrageousness is perfectly acceptable in Vegas, if you ask me.
Hometown heroes, Panic at the Disco, performed at the Palms pool for the Ditch afternoon pool party and at the Pearl Theater that night. They were joined by Motion City Soundtrack, Phantom Planet, and the Hush Sound for the night time concert as part of the Honda Civic Tour. Great live music seems to be one of the best parts of being on the Strip in the summer! Other great music artists are already planning to hit the big LV this summer! Music greats to be featured in Vegas include (my absolute favorite) Coldplay at MGM Garden Arena July 19th, country music greats Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentry, Carters Chord, Trailer Choir, and Mica Roberts July 26th for the “Biggest Baddest Tour,” and late summer look for Miss Janet Jackson for her September 19th stop in Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Arena. Janet will be ending summer with a bang with her “Rock Witchu” tour! Janet plans on singing every single she has ever released at the concert (pack a toothbrush and your pajamas…could be a long night…the lady has what…a million hit singles?!). One HUGE show to be on the lookout for will be the enormous comeback of the Osmonds! Donny and Marie Osmond have already sold $4 million worth of tickets for their new show at the Flamingo in September!
I hope every one had a GREAT Father’s Day! We know Britney did! That’s right, Britney Spears spent Father’s Day with her Dad, Jamie Spears, here in Las Vegas! It was actually a very calm, relaxing, and non-alcohol filled weekend for Ms. Spears! The hardest drink seen in Brit’s hand was a bottle of water (Good for her!). Father and daughter spent the weekend at the Sky Villa Fantasy Suite at the Palms. While in Vegas, Brit visited the new Palms Place, dined at Nove Italiano, stopped by a CineVegas film festival party, swam with the dolphins at Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden, and just ordered room service with Dad! Sounds like a fun weekend! There are lots of rumors abuzz about whether Brit will make her comeback concert in Vegas at the Palms Pearl Theater or not. This redhead SURE HOPES SO! Keeping my fingers crossed (I miss the good ole’ Britney days – I’m a teeny bopper at heart). Ironically, also in town for Father’s Day was Britney’s ex, Kevin “K-Fed” Federline. While in town K-Fed won the “Father of the Year Award.” No comment from the peanut gallery here…BUT….I will say…I think MY dad deserves it a LITTLE more…
Another comeback rumor is that of the late and great Michael Jackson! Where and how will he approach his comeback is the other question at hand. There are three rumored routes of comeback. One, Michael may have his own theater built at the Hilton and do a long-term stint similar to that of Barry Manilow or Elton John. Two, Michael could have a Cirque du Soleil show set to his greatest hits, similar to that of LOVE with the Beatles. OR, three, a charity concert could be put on by the man-himself. I like the sounds of ALL of those options! Who wouldn’t love a Cirque show set to the sounds of “Thriller” and “Billie Jean?!” All of these are said to most likely be a no go, but anything is really possible on the Strip…so we will have to wait and see.
It was raining champagne on the Strip earlier in the month, in the club that is. Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was seen at Tryst Nightclub dropping big bucks on bottles on Dom Perignon Rose champagne (15+ bottles to be exact). The champagne was then sprayed onto the entire audience of the club in a champagne frenzy! Walker’s mini-vacay took a turn for the worst however a few days later. Javon was found robbed and unconscious behind Bally’s and Bill’s Gambling Hall, after having left Body English Nightclub. Walker was taken to the nearest hospital and treated for injuries. Police are still not sure as to what exactly Walker was doing at this bizarre location, over 100 yards east of the Strip.
