March has been a crazy month thus far, so on with the ranting!
There truly has been tons of magic happening in Vegas, literally! The magicians are all over the Vegas, and even the national, scene at the moment! Look for Penn Jillette and Priscilla Presley on Dancing with the Stars (DWTS, which premiered March 17th)! I personally watched the Penn and Teller star break it down on the dance floor last night on DWTS! He’s a little lead footed on the dance floor, but he is an overall great performer and I cannot wait to see where he goes in this competition! Penn will be commuting by private jet from Vegas to Hollywood in-between performances of the Penn and Teller Magic Show. With the three hour time difference to the east coast, Penn will be able to tape DWTS and then immediately fly back to Vegas in time for the 9 p.m. performance with, his good buddy, Teller at the RIO Hotel and Casino. He has apparently lost over 50 pounds while rehearsing for the dancing show, with a mandatory 8 mile run every day since December to prepare for the competition. Penn will be dancing with Kym Johnson. Kym has actually moved to Vegas in order to fit in practice time with Penn. She will remain in Vegas until Penn wins or is voted off. Good luck to both Vegas celebs, Penn and Priscilla! Other magic happening in Vegas has included Houdini’s original props, which were in an auction on the Strip. In an attempt to gain the pieces, fellow magicians Criss Angel, David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, The Amazing Jonathan, Steve Wyrick, Nathan Burton, and Penn & Teller were all in attendance. Also available for auction were Madonna’s wedding dress, John F. Kennedy’s cigar box, John Lennon’s suit which he wore for the Abbey Road photo shoot, items from Gone with the Wind, and MORE.
Penn and Priscilla are not the only Vegas stars that will be on live TV! Vegas celebrities are taking over cable! Vegas Chefs Bobby Flay of Caesars Palace’s Mesa Grill and Akira Back from Yellowtail at the Bellagio went head-to-head on the FOOD Network’s Iron Chef Challenge. The challenge was to create a five course meal in just under 60 minutes fit for Popeye the Sailor Man. That’s right. ALL of the five courses had to have spinach in them, even the dessert! A viewing party of the show was held at Caramel ultra lounge at the Bellagio along with other world renowned chefs Brian and Frank Redzikowski and MORE. Bobby Flay won the competition, continuing his Iron Chef ranking. Iron Chef is home to the best of the best when it comes to cooking. This just goes to show that Vegas is truly on the map for some of the best food and chefs in the world! There are even more celebrities to watch out for on the tube, stay tuned to “Keeping up with the Kardashians” on E! They recently were filming a part of their show in Vegas! See where they ended up in the big L-V!
Not only are some of your favorite Vegas celebrities on TV, but some of your favorite TV personalities can be seen in real life here on the Strip! Criss Angel and girlfriend Miss Nevada USA 2008, Veronica Grabowski, were at TV host Billy Bush’s private TAO dinner party. Also in attendance were Sarah Jessica Parker, Brendan Fraser, George Maloof of the Palms hotel, David Arquette, Johnny Lee Miller, and boxer Winky Wright. Look for Veronica Grabowski as she fights her way for the Miss USA crown on April 11th at Planet Hollywood. ShoWest proved once again that “any one who’s any one” is in Vegas for that event! In attendance were Jodie Foster, Abigail Breslin of Little Miss Sunshine, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., Brendan Fraser, Kevin Spacey, Emile Hirsch, Seth Rogan, Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Hunt, Robert Redford, and (my personal FAVORITE newcomer & hottie-con-body) Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe. Bridget Marquardt from the E!’s “The Girls Next Door” partied in Playboy-bunny-style at the Palms Playboy Club for the Trashy Lingerie Party…along with many other busty/half naked ladies. The TV couple you love to hate, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of the Hills, were partying along the Strip, March 12th. They were seen at Company American Bistro dining on matzoh ball soup, oysters, scallops, steak, and lobster. Later that night the couple headed to LAX where they sat in VIP and sipped Patron and Grey Goose cocktails. Also in attendance at the club were Mike Tyson and comedian Damon Wayans, after having partied at PURE. Also at PURE were the members of Rascal Flatts and Quinton Jackson of the UFC.
Bette Midler has been hitting the town since she moved to Vegas for her production show. Bette was seen at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant at Caesars Palace. Apparently Bette has become a regular at the restaurant. Some celebrities have even become regulars to Bette’s Vegas show. Seen at her shows have been Helen Hunt, Jessica Alba, Lorraine Bracco of the Sopranos, Burlesque’s Dita Von Teese, and Gladys Knight. Also seen hitting the Vegas shows has been Nicolas Cage. He was seen at Lance Burton’s magic show at the Monte Carlo. Also in attendance was Damon Wayans. Speaking of shows, laughing is all you will be hearing in Vegas for the next week or so. On top of all the other ongoing comedy acts, Bill Maher, David Spade, Ray Romano, Sinbad, and Roseanne Barr are all going to be hitting Sin City with their comedy acts.
As the weather starts heating up, so do the bodies by the pool! That’s right…the pools are slowly opening one by one. One opening that you all should be very excited for is the opening of Wet Republic, the brand new adult only water-playground at MGM to open April 15th. The pools are not the only things going to be heating up. So are the clubs! It is in the talks that there will be some renovations done to the ultra-popular Rain nightclub this spring and summer. The club will be given a brand new facelift, as it is one of the older clubs. Ghostbar at the Palms will remain open, however. I’m sure the celebrities will be looking forward to this, since Rain is one of the more popular night spots. But what clubs have been this month’s flavors of the month?
Kate Bosworth, Jim Sturgis, and Aaron Yoo of the new movie 21 (which had its world-premiere at Planet Hollywood this month) were seen at the Playboy Club playing hands of blackjack with the bunnies. Later that night, the group went to Moon nightclub where they took numerous Patron tequila shots and danced the night away. Also seen at the Playboy Club were Ben Stiller and Matt Levin celebrating their film wrap-up, Pauly Shore, Jenelle Perry of Sunset Tan at the Palms, foxy soccer star Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy, winners of the X Games Daniel Dhers and Chad Kagy, and Efren Ramirez of Napoleon Dynamite (Vote for Pedro). Grammy award winning artist Ne-Yo has been seen jumping around Vegas like a yo-yo. Randomly popping up at night clubs all over the Strip and performing randomly at the drop of a hat, Ne-Yo has had random performances at Tryst nightclub and Body English at the Hard Rock. Who knows where he will pop up next for a random outburst of song and dance?! Michael Strahan of the New York Giants celebrated his Super Bowl win at TAO. He then continued to party at Tryst with celebrity poker player Jennifer Tily and boxer Zab Judah. Keyshia Cole was next door at Blush with Maurice Green of the Olympics and Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. Then Michael moved to Bank where Dale Jarrett, Brian Urlacher, and Playboy’s Sandra Nilsson were all partying it up.
It sure seems like the celebrities danced and partied up an appetite! The celebs were out in full force to all of the local restaurants! Toni Braxton was seen at Wolfgang Puck’s new restaurant, CUT, at the Palazzo with Steven Jackson of the St. Louis Rams. Michael Kors was also in attendance at the restaurant. As the word gets out more and more about the Palazzo, I can guarantee you that you will see MORE AND MORE celebrities wining, dining, and enjoying everything that the new facility has to offer. Andre Agassi was seen with wife/tennis star Steffi Graff at N9Ne Steakhouse eating dinner at the bar. They dined on calamari and steak. And, supermodel and Cover Girl Molly Sims was at the grand opening of the Palazzo’s new restaurant Dos Caminos with celebrity chef Scott Linquist.
It seems like the celebrities were relatively calm this month: eating, drinking, and just being merry (minus Steve-O’s jail time, see Celebrity Rant Part I). But we shall see next month if things get a little rowdy in Vegas…I HOPE, at least for juicy gossip sake. Stay tuned for the next Celebrity Rant with the Ranting Redhead.
