Las Vegas Strip entertainers and headliners pooled together Sunday night to help Celine Dion raise an astonishing $6 million for one of the many children’s medical charities she supports. The Canadian songstress and Las Vegas superstar headliner solicited the help of her fellow Caesars Palace headliners to lend a hand and raise money for her children’s sickle-cell-research benefit concert “Play Without Pain.” And some of Sin City’s biggest stars donated to the cause. Backstage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Celine’s husband and manager Rene Angelil and Celine herself welcomed 150 of the donors and doctors of Children’s Hospital Boston for a meet-and-greet and photo session. The couple then donated the entire proceeds of the 4,200-seat performance to the fundraiser. “As a mother, I was incredibly moved by the stories that were shared with me regarding the impact this disease has on children. This benefit is a way in which I can get involved to positively touch these children’s lives,” Celine said. “Your compassion and kindness could be the tipping point in helping researchers eradicate the disease and bring relief to millions across the globe. The funds we raise will allow these children to grow up pain free and lead longer, more productive lives. Our prayer is they grow up to play without pain.” A four-course feast from Chef Savoy, who flew in from Paris, France, at his namesake restaurant in the Las Vegas hotel was served for the charity’s supporters. The menu included artichoke and black truffle soup, turbot and black truffle Mousseline, Beef Wellington and chocolate fondant. After the show, guests attended a party and auction at nearby nightclub Pure where fellow Caesars Palace headliner Rod Stewart donated an autographed soccer ball. Rio headliners and magicians Penn & Teller donated private magic lessons for a winning bidder. VIP experiences were auctioned for the Flamingo’s brother and sister duo Donny & Marie Osmond, Holly Madison of Peepshow at Planet Hollywood, Flamingo headliner George Wallace, “Jersey Boys” at the Paris, Cirque du Soleil’s “Ka” at MGM Grand, “Jubilee!” at Bally’s, “Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular” at the Venetian, Imperial Palace headliners Human Nature and “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace. During the show, doctors affiliated with the hospital revealed that they are close to discovering life-enhancing therapies to treat sickle-cell anemia and are on the cusp of a cure. Celine’s incredible $6 million donation will enable the start of clinical trials in completing the research and increasing awareness about its impact.
