Chinese New Year in Vegas

Although, not one of the more obviously busy holidays for Sin City, the Chinese New Year is becoming more and more popular and people of Chinese-decent are ushering in from all over the country to enjoy the events taking place in Las Vegas. Events like the Chinese New Year Spectacular at the Las Vegas Hilton are happening all over the city.

The Las Vegas Hilton will host a one-night-only performance on January 21, which will include beautiful Asian dancers and live music as well as traditional warriors fighting onstage in martial-arts style combat. The performance is colorful and is said to bring joy and luck to audience members, just like the traditions that take place in China.

The Chinese New Year traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month according to the Chinese Calendar and ends on the 15th day, allowing two full weeks of celebration. This year the Chinese New Year begins on February 8, during which the Chinese will prepare for the year of the rat. Floats and parades are often a big part of celebration.

Another great place to enjoy the Chinese New Year is in Chinatown Plaza which is located on Spring Mountain Road only minutes from the Strip. Here spectators will see live street shows as well as enjoy a plethora of authentic Asian cuisine. So come hungry and enjoy dragons walking through the streets to the beats of drummers.

If you stay on the Strip, it’s not unusual to see parades wandering right through the center of the hotel. Last year, even the Venetian took part in festivities by sending floats and dancers out into the casino to wish good luck apon gamblers. In a city based on the idea of luck, it comes as no surprise that a holiday like the Chinese New Year might be becoming more and more popular.
