In Good Company

Notorious Las Vegas party favorites Nick Lachey, Nicky Hilton, Wilder Valderrama, and several other high-profile financiers have opened Company American Bistro in the Luxor Hotel and Casino. Company, is a new restaurant serving good old comfort food with a French twist. Company’s aim is to bring back the “home-cooked” restaurant idea and combine that with the “everybody knows your name” bar philosophy. (Not a new idea, we know, but still a good one!)

The restaurant, which opened in late November of 2007, has already been visited by a slew of celebrity faces. So let us recap: comfort food, good bar scene, and celebrity faces. This is pretty much the exact recipe for a successful restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip. But there’s still something missing—a celebrity chef! Oh wait, just kidding, they’ve got that too! Chef Adam Sobel, formerly of the famously expensive Restaurant Guy Savoy, brings the aforementioned “French twist” to the American Bistro as he takes on the role of head chef.

The interior of Company is reminiscent of a ski lodge. Animal heads adorn the walls as fireplaces create a cozy atmosphere. Large leather high-back chairs are comfortable and the room beams with masculinity. The dining room is really refreshing considering the normally ultra-modern décor seen is so many of the trendy celeb-friendly restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip. And although trendy, this restaurant is not at all stuffy or overpriced. Service is friendly but there’s no unnecessary changing of silverware every 5 minutes or long explanations on food that are partly in French.

However, the name may be misleading. With items on the menu such as Florida stone crab, wild mushroom ravioli, roasted veal chop and Dover Sole many might be confused by the “American Bistro” title. Some items like Macaroni Casserole and Matzo ball soup, however, live up to the comfort food name. So don’t get discouraged…this is Vegas and even so-called simple American dining is almost never as “simple” as it sounds. But remember, you are the company you keep and the company at the Luxor is delicious!
