Dessert in the Desert

After enjoying a world class meal at one of the many 5-star restaurants in Las Vegas, you may get a craving for something on the sweet side. Indulgence is the theme almost everywhere you look in Las Vegas and there are plenty of spots to enjoy delicious chocolates, pastries, and desserts. Yum!

One of the most famous spots for after dinner treats is the Chocolate Swan at Mandalay Bay. What makes this chocolate shop unique is its small town feel. The Basta family originally opened the shop in Wisconsin and finally decided to try their luck in Vegas. The shop specializes in chocolate truffles. With flavors like Chambord and Black Forest, it will be almost impossible not to take a few home to try later. The shop serves cakes, pastries, custards, and even a complete wine list with pairings for each dessert. This tiny shop is the perfect place to bring a first date. They also offer crème brulee along with a wide selection of teas and coffees. Any girl could easily fall in love at this Chocolate lovers dream dessert spot.

Another delicious and also romantic spot is Jean-Phillipe Patisserie at the Bellagio. Jean-Phillipe Maury is a world-class chef and it would only be fitting for him to open a bakery at the Bellagio amidst some of the most coveted restaurants in the world. The storefront is home to an eye-catching 27-foot tall chocolate fountain which pumps almost two tons of chocolate. All of his decadent creations are made on-site with over 70 chefs working in the kitchen. The pastries are 67 to 97 percent chocolate giving all the desserts a rich chocolate flavor. Jean-Phillipe also does not believe in using preservatives so the shelf life for his products is only about two weeks. The Patisserie is also home to giant chocolate sculptures that change regularly. These sculptures are unique works of art and it is worth coming to the Patisserie just to see them.

Whether you are tying the knot in Vegas or just looking for a place to get some sweets Freed’s Bakery is the ultimate stop. Freed’s mostly specializes in unique cakes that are often works of art. Freed’s makes cakes for every occasion and most come in the shape of real life objects that looks so realistic you may even be afraid to eat them. Freed’s is also known as the bakery of the stars in Las Vegas. Celebrities like Andre Agassi and Tiger Woods got their wedding cakes at Freed’s. However, Freed’s has more than just wedding cakes. They specialize in all kinds of pastries and baked goods. In may be a little out of the way, but everything at this bakery is delicious. It has been voted Las Vegas’ best bakery several times.

If you’re looking to cool off in the mid-day sun, take a trip to Luv-It Frozen Custard. Located downtown near the Stratosphere, this spot is a local’s favorite. The custards here are made from scratch daily. During the summer lines at Luv-It can wrap around the block. Some famous flavors include: butter pecan, lemon tart, and banana nut.

With so many sinful ways to satisfy a sweet tooth in Las Vegas it can be easy to over indulge. So take your time and spread out your dessert outings over a few days. Trying them all at once could be hazardous to your health.
