The Monte Carlo is undergoing quite a few changes to its entertainment lineup this month as master magician Lance Burton ends his run at the famous hotel and Frank Caliendo and the Jabbawockeez move in for a new round of shows. Lance Burton said goodbye to his fans this past Saturday after an unprecedented 15-year-long run at the Monte Carlo. And the magician has absolutely no idea what he’s going to do next. “This is the end. I have o idea what next. I simply don’t have a clue,” he said. But it seems the Monte Carlo knows exactly what they want to do with Burton’s coveted time slot as they’ve already scheduled comedy impressionist Frank Caliendo to take over the primetime 7:30 p.m. opening. And who’s taking over Frank’s headlining duties? Who else but the hip-hop dance sensation Jabbawockeez! Starting October 7 the all-male modern dance crew will start a headline run at the Monte Carlo after recent sold-out dates at MGM Grand. MGM Resorts International confirmed the rumors that the hip-hop dancers, who won Season 1 of Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew, have signed contracts for 9:30 p.m. performances of their M.U.S.I.C. on Tuesdays through Saturdays. Although Jabbawockeez have been performing in Vegas for several months now, this opportunity will be the first time they have a full time position on the Strip. Jabbawockeez began their trip to fame back in 2003 in San Diego when Joe Larot, Kevin Brewer and Phil Tayag wanted to showcase freestyle dance. It wasn’t long after when the group finally got a chance to do that after winning recognition on Season 2 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent in 2007. Unfortunately the crew was eliminated in the Las Vegas callback episode after decreasing from eleven to six members. But we all know that didn’t stop the incredible dance team from finding a way to become one of the most popular dance ensembles in Vegas! And if you’re curious about their unusual name, let me assure you it’s not just a random string of letters thrown together to create a neat sound. No, in fact it originated from a poem about a mythical dragon called Jabberwocky by British poet Lewis Carroll. The poem was even referenced in their show at MGM Grand. It looks like all of their hard work has finally paid off and the Jabbawockeez will get to relish in their new home at the Monte Carlo! Congratulations to the most impressive dance crew I have ever seen and we hope you spend many years entertaining the masses at the Monte Carlo. If you like music and love dance, I’m confident the Jabbawockeez will remain a Las Vegas staple!
