Las Vegas local, 20 year old Julianne Hough, will be dancing her way from Dancing with the Stars directly onto the big screen in the coming months! That’s right. Las Vegas’ hometown girl has been offered the leading female role, alongside heartthrob Chace Crawford, in the 2010 remake of the movie classic Footloose.
As her first major leading role, Hough is desperately rearranging her country singing engagements and appearances to make this happen. It is a huge opportunity for this Las Vegas singer and dancer, as the film is set to be directed by movie powerhouse Kenny Ortega, of the multi-million-dollar hit High School Musical trilogy and director for Michael Jackson’s upcoming UK concerts. But, Julianne is ready for the challenge! Julianne has been training her entire life for a role such as this!
Born into a family of five, Julianne grew up in the city of Sandy, Utah. Her formal training began in Utah, as she trained in the arts of Latin Ballroom dance and began to dance competitively at age nine. During a rough family divorce, Julianne’s parents sent her to London with her brother, and fellow famous dancer Derek Hough, to live and train with dance professionals Corky and Shirley Ballas. The Ballas’ trained and tutored the two children, along with their son dancer Mark Ballas, at the Italia Conto Academy. There, the Houghs received training in song, theatre, gymnastics, jazz, ballet, and more! At age 15, Julianne was the youngest dancer to win both a Junior World Latin Championship and International Latin Youth Championship. After five years of training and competition in Europe, the beautiful blonde returned to the U.S. to live with her mother in our very own Las Vegas, where she attended the Las Vegas Academy, before returning to Utah with her father. From there, there was nowhere but up for this beauty.
Hough went on to choreograph and dance throughout the Hollywood scene. One of her first major jobs was as the assistant choreographer on Gwen Stefani’s music video “Wind It Up.” From there, she went on to act and perform in smaller gigs, before landing a spot on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Julianne performed with numerous competitors, including Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, race car driver Helio Carolla, Adam Corolla, and, even, her own real-life boyfriend Chuck Wicks, in this recent season. Her singing career shines just as bright for this Las Vegas hometown girl, as well, with Billboard Top 100 hits, two Academy of Country Music Awards (won right here in Las Vegas!), and nominations for CMT Music Awards and a Primetime Emmy.
To star as the lead Ariel in the upcoming Footloose movie is a chance of a lifetime for this Hollywood up-and-coming star! Following in the footsteps of actors such as Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker, from the original film, there are some big dancing and singing shoes to be filled. But, she will definitely get the help of People Magazine’s Summer’s Hottest Bachelor Chace Crawford, who is also no stranger to Las Vegas. He has actually had quite the Vegas vacation the past few weeks, visiting places such as Dos Caminos, Lavo, TAO Beach, TAO, and First Food and Bar, with friends and family.
