The 2009 Swimwear trends are highly influenced by the overall 2009 Fashion Trends that we will be seeing for the year. One shoulder bikinis and monokinis are all the rage this summer. The one-shoulder fashion trend for 2009 has crept into swimwear fashion for the year, having been seen donned by models on the catwalks of famous designers Marios Schwab and Herve Leger by Max Azria. Displayed in rich summer florals, classic black, and jewel tones, the one shoulder bikinis give subtle sexy coverage.
The other summer fashion staple is the cutaway swimwear and bikinis. With pieces of the swimsuits strategically cut-out, these swim suits scream “SEX,” without taking it all off. Acclaimed at New York Fashion Week this year, the style has already been popping up all over the map. Stars such as Megan Fox (on the July 2009 cover of GQ magazine), Lindsay Lohan, Lara Stone, and more have all been donning this look!

The sheer trend for the year definitely carries over into swimwear this summer. Sheer swimsuit cover-ups leave little to the imagination, while giving you an extra layer of protection from the Las Vegas sun. They come in great sheer florals and patterns, as well as a gorgeous classic gray or black. Adding to the overall look, strappy gladiator sandals and heels are still very popular for this summer, as well as the bohemian fashions of bandanas, headbands, billowy tops, charm and coin belt jewelry, and bulky statement jewelry pieces. Poolside hair styles go with the trends as well, with straight and sleek looks, mermaid-like waves, and simple up-dos leading the way for fashion. Started by Sienna Miller at the 2007 Golden Globes and still going strong, a simple fashion-forward up-do hairstyle is milkmaid braids, wrapping a braid across your hair as a headband or even simple integrations of them into your overall hairstyle.
Guys definitely have it easier pool side, but fashion should never slack for you all either! Stripes are in for men’s swimwear this year, as well as bold patterns such as those by Ed Hardy/Christian Audigier.
