The hit Broadway musical will soon be transformed to take on the silver screen. Set to release in Summer of 2008, the movie will star Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried and will feature all the original ABBA hits that made the stage show so popular. Mamma Mia! has already become a hit, both on Broadway and in productions around the world. Currently playing at Mandalay Bay, Mamma Mia is the story of a young girl, Sophie, and her mother, Donna. Sophie is about to get married and as her mother prepares for the wedding she invites the three men that she thinks could potentially be her father, whom she’s never met.
Set to the backdrop of the Greek isles, Sophie and Donna will sing their way into your hearts as the three men argue over who is the beautiful young girl’s father. Donna reveals a little of her past as she sees the men she once loved so long ago. Before becoming a mom, Donna was a wild party girl who loved to dance the night away. This colorful and heart warming production is full of joy and sorrow and the music and dancing will blow you away. Twenty of, Swedish pop sensation, ABBA’s greatest hits will be performed in the movie. Songs like “Dancing Queen," “Winner Takes It All," and “Take a Chance on Me” will have you dancing in the aisles. Throughout the show, Sophie tries to hide the fact that she invited the three men to the wedding and lets her mother pick up the pieces as she surprisingly encounters her ex-boyfriends at her house. Although seemingly dysfunctional, the “family” pulls it together in the end and everyone finds their peace with the situation.
The show not only took the musical theater community by storm, it also revived popularity of all the classic ABBA hits. After the shows opening in the West End, Mamma Mia! has been produced in countries all over the world as well as in several touring productions. Audiences are calling Mamma Mia the most fun you will have during a show in Las Vegas. Come see the show at Mandalay Bay before you see the movie and you will see what all the fuss is about. The movie starring Meryl Streep is set to open July of 2008.
