Who says Las Vegas is in the desert? Well, okay – it is. But when the Strip’s first-ever Farmer’s Market takes over The Palazzo on Wednesday, June 3, visitors won’t be able to believe that such an incredible cornucopia of fruits and vegetables was grown right here in Sin City. Tomorrow, The Palazzo will go green as celebrity Chef Mario Batali presents “Bet on the Farm: Sustainable Food and Wine,” a farmer’s market featuring all local organic produce for guests and restaurant chefs to purchase and sample.
From noon to 6 pm, the Waterfall Atrium at the Palazzo will feature attractive displays filled with delicious, sustainable products from seven local farmers. There’ll be golden and regular tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, white and regular peaches, apricots, figs, asparagus, local desert honey, herbs, artisanal bread, and fresh juice from a local orchard. Guests will even be able to buy the farm – in a good way, of course – as farmers will be selling local quail and chicken and duck eggs.
In addition, restaurateur and winemaker Joe Bastianich will be on hand presenting a variety of biodynamic wines for tasting. Biodynamic wines are made from biodynamic grapes, which are cultivated using several organic methods.
Aside from displaying a great variety of tasty treats from the land, the “Bet on the Farm” Farmer’s Market will also celebrate Batali’s three restaurants, which have been certified green by the Green Restaurant Association: Carnevino at The Palazzo and B&B Ristorante and Enoteca San Marco at The Venetian.
“I am very excited about being the first restaurant group in the first LEED building on the Strip to achieve full on GREEN certified status,” said Batali. “I hope that this will be just the beginning for all of our friends in Las Vegas to help preserve our planet for the generations to come and to participate in long term goal oriented decision making in all of our businesses.”
Batali will officially announce the Green Certification his Vegas restaurants at 4:30 pm. Afterwards, Bastianich will discuss biodynamic wines, and the Palazzo’s Director of Food Safety and Sustainability, Elizabeth Meltz, will present an in-depth look at the process of “going green,” along with the Palazzo’s certified LEED status and other green aspects of the hotel.
To wrap up the fresh food festivities, guests will be able to enjoy an exclusive “green” three course prix-fixe dinner menu at Carnevino. Priced at $45 a person, the menu includes dishes like Emerald Lettuce Steak House Wedge with Sweet Garlic, and Carne Cruda with “The Farm” quail egg.
