Mike Tyson Ties the Knot in Las Vegas Chapel

After tragedy, the best thing to do might be to start a new chapter in life and focus on the positive. That seems to be Mike Tyson’s strategy, as the Las Vegas resident and former boxing legend tied the knot this weekend in a private, heartfelt, and no-frills ceremony with his longtime girlfriend, Lakiha “Kiki” Spicer.

The couple took out a marriage license early Saturday night and exchanged vows at La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton roughly 30 minutes later. The intimate ceremony took place without any invited guests, and the chapel photographer even had to double as a witness.

The wedding is a bright spot in what’s undoubtedly been a rough couple of weeks for Tyson. The boxer has been grieving over the accidental death of his four-year-old daughter Exodus just two weeks ago. One of seven children Tyson’s had by several different women, Exodus was found unconscious and tangled in a power cord attached to a treadmill on May 25. She was rushed to the hospital and put on life support but died of her injuries the next day.

The tragedy also comes at a time when “Iron Mike” has been thrust back into the spotlight thanks to a cameo in the sleeper hit comedy The Hangover, in which he plays himself. The film, which was shot on location in Las Vegas, follows three groomsmen after a wild bachelor party. In one scene, Tyson appears in their Caesars Palace suite because he thinks the three main characters have stolen his pet Bengal tiger. They enter to find him doing an air-drum solo and singing karaoke to Phil Collins’ “I Can Feel It Coming in the Air Tonight.” On the bright side, critics have hailed the scene as one of the movie’s funniest moments.

Tyson’s marriage to Spicer is his third; the 30-year-old resident of nearby Henderson has been linked to him since his second marriage ended in divorce in 1997. He’s previously had turmulous marriages to actress Robin Givens and pediatric assistant Monica Turner.

The chapel owner said the pair wanted a simple ceremony with “nothing special.”

“They just wanted to say the vows and be married. It was very sincere,” Shawn Absher said. “They were very heartwarming, and I think they really do love each other. He seemed happy – and his life’s been up and down.”
