A career as a LA Lakers cheerleader, an award-winning choreographer, a pop-R&B singer, and TV personality…Could her own show on the Las Vegas Strip be next? The rumors are gearing up to be true for Ms. Paula Abdul!
The 46 year old pop-legend was seen touring numerous Las Vegas Strip entertainment venues with BASE Entertainment Exec Scott Zeiger, this past weekend. BASE Entertainment is the powerhouse agency behind the likes of Jersey Boys, Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular, and Wayne Brady: Making It Up. Rumors have been circulating about the likelihood of Paula Abdul moving onto the shining lights of Vegas after her contract with FOX’s American Idol ends after this upcoming season.
Abdul toured numerous venues with Scott Zeiger. Abdul was given a private behind-the-scenes tour of Wayne Brady’s theater at the Venetian, the theater of the late Danny Gans at Encore, and, even, the Peepshow Theater in Vegas. In this apparent bidding war for Ms. Abdul’s attention, Wayne Brady’s theater at the Venetian seems to be the front-runner, with rumors of Abdul starting her own show at the theater after Wayne Brady’s contract is up or becoming another addition to the hotel’s running lineup at the theater.
Abdul is no stranger to the Las Vegas theaters. In fact, over a year ago Paula had originally been signed to have her own outdoor summer theater at Silverton Casino Lodge, but this plan was postponed due to the economic slowdown. What hotel will Abdul go with? When would it start? Will Abdul come here or stay with American Idol? Is this really going to happen? Maybe.
There have been no reports of what the actual show could entail or what it will be about, but we have been informed that it will most likely be a talent/variety show. Other rumors circulating have included a cheerleader like performance that will be integrated into a dance show, reminiscent of Abdul’s roots as a former LA Lakers cheerleader and dancer. She was even rumored to have been at Peepshow checking out the stage to star in it herself, but that rumor was short lived when Abdul personally put an end to that buzz.
Having six #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, a Grammy award, and a primetime Emmy under her belt, her own Las Vegas show does not seem that far from fiction. With high hopes of having a new album out by the end of 2009 and having, even, performed her newest single “I’m Just Here for the Music” LIVE on this past season of American Idol, it seems that this rumor might actually come to true. After all, it would be perfect timing with the release of a new album and a strong following of fans from over the years. BestOfVegas.com will be sure to let you know as soon as any developments become available.
