It’s official; if you happen to party with the Wentz’s, as in Pete and Ashlee Wentz, you might want to keep your distance or risk incurring what’s become known as the Wentz wrath.
The famous couple (Pete is a member of Fall Out Boy and Ashlee is the younger, also musically inclined sister of Jessica Simpson) made a trip to Vegas this weekend to celebrate Pete’s 30th birthday. On Saturday night, the two started the festivities with a late dinner at Yellowtail inside the Bellagio. They then headed over to Bank, where they sat in the nightclub’s VIP section with a group of friends.
The couple seemed to be enjoying themselves as Pete downed a few beers and Ashlee sipped champagne; fans and paparazzi looked on all the while, snapping photos of the pair. However, one of the paps must have done something to set Pete off – exactly what he did still isn’t clear – because Mr. Wentz got up to confront a photographer and then spat in his face.
Perez Hilton reported a witness’ take on the incident: “Inside the club, some photographer took a photo of Pete and Ashlee, and I guess they didn’t ask, so Pete flipped out and went after the guy. His publicist and Ashlee held him back, but he spit on the photographer.”
Club security removed the photographer from the club, and Wentz was escorted to the bathroom, presumably to cool down. However, he returned to his visibly upset wife shortly thereafter and even hit the dance floor for a little while. Later on, Pete was presented with a baby blue birthday cake with a picture of his wife and son Bronx Mowgli on it.
Incidentally, this isn’t Pete’s first headline-scoring escapade in Las Vegas. In early April, after Fallout Boy performed a sold-out concert at the Palms, a raging party ensued afterwards in one of the hotel’s suites. Reportedly, partiers, including Holly Madison, erected a makeshift Slip n’ Slide, and Pete was photographed dancing and grinding with strippers while his wife stayed home with their baby.
But Pete’s not alone when it comes to making a fool of himself or throwing a temper tantrum, either. Just last Monday, Ashlee had a little too much to drink at a “DJ Hero” video game party in Los Angeles, and a one-sided catfight ensued.
At the party, Pete and Ashlee were seated across from Pete’s ex-girlfriend, actress Michelle Trachtenberg. And though Mrs. Wentz was able to get along amicably with her husband’s former beau at first, the claws came out when alcohol got involved. Ashlee reportedly got “sloppy” drunk, gave her husband a lap dance while staring at Trachtenberg, and hauled a variety of insults at the actress before having to be dragged away.
The Wentz’s should know by now – what happens in Las Vegas, or in Los Angeles, for that matter, will not only not stay there but be well-documented by the gossip mags as well. Still, Pete wasn’t too fazed by his run-in with the photographer this weekend.
Shortly after the altercation, he tweeted, “I am the embodiment of Las Vegas right now. I have ‘reported’ to the dance floor. Thanks Bellagio. I need that 80 grand in chips.”
