Roseanne Barr to Perform at the Sahara

Roseanne Barr is performing a limited engagement at the Sahara hotel and casino. She will appear nightly inside the legendary Congo Room. Barr is not only an Emmy winning actress; she is also an extremely accomplished stand-up comedian.

Roseanne Barr was born to a Jewish family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her parents were not wealthy, by any means, and growing up in a primarily Mormon community, her family decided to hide their Judaism from their neighbors. They even attended church services at a Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Roseanne’s odd upbringing became the context for many of her jokes later in life. Her story is truly a rags to riches tale. Barr started out as a waitress and a dishwasher in a local restaurant soon after leaving high school. Her fellow employees encouraged her to pursue comedy after hearing the outrageously funny comments and stories she would tell to the patrons at the restaurant. When Roseanne was very young she gave birth to a daughter and was forced to put her up for adoption. She later contacted her daughter and asked her to come work for her in L.A. Her daughter, Brandi Brown agreed and the two have remained close ever since.

Her stand-up act in the 1980’s poked fun mostly at housewives and working-class men. In 1985 she appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson; she was an instant fan favorite. Her routines were so popular that she was offered her own sit-com on ABC, titled Roseanne. The show ran for almost ten years and was one of ABC’s biggest hits, at the time. She also starred on Broadway in The Wizard of Oz and was given her own talk show that was canceled two years later. In 2005, Roseanne returned to stand-up and toured the world performing some of the original skits that made her famous. She even took her act to Europe.

Roseanne guest starred a few years later on an episode of My Name is Earl and she was also given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She even has worked as a guest editor for New Yorker magazine. She now lives in El Segundo, California with her youngest son, Buck, who is eight and her other three children. She is known as a firm believer in Kabbalah, a form of Judaism that was made popular by celebrities like Madonna, who also studies the religion.

Roseanne will be appearing nightly at 9:30 p.m. at the Sahara hotel and casino. Tickets and dates are limited. Click here to purchase tickets NOW.
