Snowing in Vegas

Although it usually doesn’t get cold enough to actually snow in Vegas, there are two places on the Strip that give the illusion that it does. The first is a relaxing experience inside the Arctic Ice Room at Qua Spa inside Caesars Palace. The second chilling experience is located at Mandalay Bay’s Red Square restaurant inside the Vodka Locker, which is really just a pseudonym for freezer.

Northern natives who are looking to relax with all the “comforts” of home should head to Qua Spa at Caesars. Although all of their treatment options are relaxing, some stand out in the crowd as the most perplexing. The treatments that take place inside the famous Arctic Ice Room are freezing…but in a good way. Inside this room, especially relaxing after a hot stone treatment or a stint inside the sauna, ice falls from the ceiling just like snow. The idea behind this is that the flakes falling on hot skin will calm and sooth after an already relaxing hot treatment. So if you’ve never seen snow and just want to really get the full experience, there is no better way to do it than in your bath robe after a hot stone treatment!

Another, equally odd, icy adventure waits inside the Vodka Locker at Red Square restaurant at Mandalay Bay. Red Square is the Russian themed restaurant at Mandalay Bay and of course vodka is the favorite drink at Red Square. Russians insist, however, on serving their vodka drinks as cold as possible. Even the bar itself is a huge block of ice, ensuring drinks never get warm. Just sitting at the bar here will cool you off and ensure a delicious drink. However, when purchasing the really extravagant top-shelf vodkas (many that aren’t available anywhere else in Vegas) the Russians believe that sitting at an ice bar just won’t do the trick. We have to actually get inside the freezer from which the vodkas are stored. Don’t worry though; you’ll be given traditional fur coats and hats to wear during your “VIP” experience. Did we mention you’ll be sitting next to a replica of Lenin’s head…yes, they certainly don’t forget the theme at this restaurant. Although, not the most relaxing spot in town, it’s definitely one of the most unique experiences you will ever have while enjoying a bottle of vodka.

Don’t be fooled by the desert climate though. Once every three to four years, it actually does snow in Las Vegas. Even though, it’s often not even enough to accumulate on the ground. It does happen. But what’s even more fun than watching the snow is watching confused tourists freak out when they see it. No one believes it can ever snow here but, despite popular belief, it actually gets pretty cold sometimes in the winter and in some extreme cases, it even gets cold enough to snow. When traveling to Las Vegas in the winter, remember to pack sweaters and don’t be surprised if many of the pools are closed. It CAN get cold! And sometimes it really is snowing in Vegas—both indoors and out.
