Spring Breaking in Las Vegas

Although Las Vegas isn’t one of the more obvious Spring Break locations, every year more and more college students are heading to Vegas and skipping the typical beach spots like Key West or Cancun. There is also a misconception that a trip to Las Vegas has to be extremely expensive. If done right, a trip to Las Vegas can actually be really cheap. The secret is that flights and hotel room rates in Vegas are low compared to other popular tourist destinations. The reason for this is that hotels think they will make up for the money they lose on your room rate with money from the casino. However, if you stay away from the tables and don’t gamble then you will really win in the end.

Spring is actually a great time to visit Vegas because the climate in the spring is perfect. The summers can get way to hot and the winter can get a little cold as well, but spring temperatures are usually just right. Also, the pools will most likely be open at all of the hotels if you travel in the spring. The pools in Las Vegas are sometimes more impressive than the casinos and they are a great place to spend your days without spending too much money. Many pools will make Spring Breakers feel like they are at a beach destination because they’re pools are actually man-made beaches. Some good pools to check out are the pools at Mandalay Bay, the Palms, and Hard Rock.

When it comes to deciding on what hotel to stay at most Spring Breakers will be looking for places with other Spring Breakers. One of the most popular hotels among young singles is the Palms. The hotel is hip, trendy, and reasonably priced. However, it is located just off the Strip, so you may make up for some of the discount with the money you will spend on cabs if you want to go to the Strip. Another fun spot on the Strip is Mandalay Bay. However, Mandalay Bay is one of the nicer and more expensive hotels. Discount hotels on the Strip include the Flamingo (which has a really popular pool area) and the Tropicana.

It is no secret that the cost of dining in Las Vegas is constantly on the rise. More and more high end chefs are competing for your dining dollars, but you don’t have to break the bank to get a taste of Las Vegas. There are still plenty of good restaurants on the Strip that don’t cost too much. Almost all of the larger casinos have food courts and food courts are a great place to find cheap eats. A few good ones are: Cypress Creek Marketplace at Caesars Palace or either of the two food courts at the Venetian. Other less expensive but delicious restaurants include: Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay and the Peppermill Lounge.

Nighttime is when most people really start to spend large chunks of change, but it’s absolutely possible to still visit some of the hot nightspots without taking out a second mortgage. It’s Spring Break and almost all students in Vegas on Spring Break have one thing on their mind—drinking! However, students should beware that the bars and clubs in Las Vegas are very strict when it comes to age restrictions. No bars or clubs in Vegas allow anyone under 21 to enter the establishment—period. Security is very tight and fake IDs will not work in Las Vegas. Nightclubs in Vegas can also be kind of pricey, though, so it’s good to know where to go without spending $20 or $30 for cover. There are lots of bars and lounges in Las Vegas that do not charge a cover; you just have to know where to go. If you’re looking for an upscale lounge scene, check out Caramel at the Bellagio. This is where many club hoppers go before and after the dance floors at the more expensive clubs. Another fun place is Heart Bar inside Planet Hollywood. This bar doesn’t charge a cover either and it gets pretty crowded at night for a small casino bar. Another really cool spot that has a little bit more of a club atmosphere is The Beatles Revolution lounge, this psychedelic nightclub is a blast from the past and a ton of fun and the best part is—no cover. However, if you absolutely must see the nightclubs in Vegas and plan on spending a good portion of your trip club hoping, check out the Ultimate VIP Clubhopper Package. It’s a great deal if you’re going to be visiting several Vegas clubs. The package includes admission to almost all the nightclubs on the Strip as well as several coupons for drink specials. So for this year’s Spring Break, skip the beach and head to Sin City instead!
