The King’s Vegas

Everyone knows that Elvis Presley has long been a favorite in Sin City. Almost every where you look there is something Elvis themed. The King lived, performed, stayed, and played in Vegas and the city loves to pay tribute to one of the best performers of all time. Elvis was even married at the chapel inside the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood) Casino. Now, anyone can be married in the same chapel that Elvis was by an Elvis impersonator. So for the die hard Elvis fans we’ve got all the must-see Elvis attractions all in one place.

Elvis Presley was truly a revolutionary in his time. Known worldwide as “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll," Presley mixed the sounds of rock, country, and rhythm and blues at a time when music was classified as being either “white” or “black." Elvis also shocked audiences with his tremendous stage presence and wild dance moves. Elvis starred in over 30 movies and received 14 total Grammy nominations throughout his career. Many of his fans consider him underappreciated by the music industry. The most mysterious part of Presley’s life was his untimely death. Many thought that Elvis had faked his death because of the way he seemed to have died at a time when his record sales were down. Many historians think that if Elvis hadn’t died when he did, he would not have been nearly as successful as a pop icon. There was also little known about his death right away. Presley struggled with addiction. He was taking prescription drugs in increasing doses mostly as a cure for stress, depression, and insomnia. The doctors who prescribed the drugs tried to say that Elvis died of a heart attack. However, many people believe that he over dosed on prescription medication. After Elvis was buried his body was almost stolen from its resting place in a public cemetery in Memphis. Now Elvis is buried at Graceland where thousands visit his body each year.

One of Elvis Presley’s favorite place to perform was Las Vegas. Many of his live shows and television broadcasts came from Vegas and it is a favorite tourist destination for Elvis fans. When coming to Vegas to see Elvis memorabilia, there is so much to see that it can be hard to figure out where to begin. A good first stop on tour de Elvis should be on Chapel Row. Visit either the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel or the Graceland Wedding Chapel. Both offer Elvis themed weddings as well as traditional ceremonies. Another memorable spot to see is the place where Elvis himself was actually married. Go to the Planet Hollywood and take a tour of their wedding chapel and you will see the exact spot where Elvis and Priscilla tied the knot.

The best place for an Elvis fan to rest their head is definitely the Las Vegas Hilton. This hotel is absolutely obsessed with Elvis and for good reason. The King played 837 sold out shows in their showroom. There is even a bronze Elvis statue in the lobby at the Las Vegas Hilton. Their gift shop is also a great place to pick up Elvis memorabilia.

Looking for some traditional Elvis entertainment? Check out one of the many impersonation shows that take place all over town. Legends in Concert is one of the best impersonation shows in town and of course their Elvis impersonator is uncanny. If you’re looking to see the Strip as well, take a trip on the Show Bus of the Stars. The Show Bus of the Stars is an impersonation show that takes place on top of a double-decker bus while driving down the Las Vegas Strip. So you can see all the sites of Las Vegas while listening to your favorite songs performed by Elvis, Marilyn, and all your favorite Vegas stars. True Elvis fans will want to see his 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe which is on display at the Imperial Palace Auto Collection. Elvis may have left the building many years ago but his spirit is alive and well in the city he helped put on the map.
