It was announced in June that her show at the Flamingo would be canceled indefinitely due to health problems. The singer was suffering heart palpitations and was hospitalized in early April. She has always suffered heart problems and the show was proving to be too much for the now 40-year-old star. However, Braxton recently signed on to perform in next season of Dancing with the Stars despite her condition. The show is already in rehearsals and she is reportedly doing great. Braxton has been paired up with first season winner, Alec Mazzo, and has reportedly asked not to be given any special treatment because of her health condition.
Braxton performed her revue live at the Flamingo from 2006-2008. She was scheduled to perform through mid-August but was forced to cancel in June. Her show at the Flamingo was a huge success in Las Vegas and her larger-than-life image became a part of the Strip as it was plastered onto the side of the Flamingo’s Hotel tower for almost two years. Braxton is a celebrated musician and actress who is most famous for her slow love ballads like “Un-break My Heart,” and “Another Sad Love Song.” She gained most of her popularity during the nineties with her albums Toni Braxton and Secrets. Several of her songs spent weeks on the Billboard Top 100 list and she is also the winner of several Grammy Awards. Braxton released a few albums in the late 90’s that weren’t as successful as her first albums. She went on to pursue her acting career as she played the character of “Belle” on Broadway in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. She was the first African American woman to play a lead role in a Disney musical. However, her Las Vegas performance Toni Braxton: Revealed was voted one of the best shows in Las Vegas as she headlined at the Flamingo.
Although Toni Braxton has not had nearly as many hits as many modern pop-divas, she has a large and devoted fan base. She has now announced that she is in perfect health and ready to take on the challenge of rehearsing and preparing for Dancing with the Stars. Performing on the show can become very intense and many contestants in the past have been voted off simply because they were unprepared and could not keep up with the rigorous rehearsal schedule. Braxton has also gained popularity due to her charity work. She works closely with Autism Speaks. Her youngest son, Diezel, was diagnosed with autism. She is also a member of the Heart Association. Braxton has suffered from heart problems since complications delivering her son. Although Toni Braxton will no longer be performing in Las Vegas, she will be performing live every week on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Everyone at BestOfVegas will be rooting for her. Go Toni!
