Love ‘em or hate ‘em, U2 has been around since the 1980’s. They have sold millions of albums, toured the world and gained a loyal fan base that never stops short of describing their relationship with the band and their music as a religious experience. We’re sure the 42,241 people that somehow squeezed their way into the Sam Boyd Silver Bowl Stadium over the weekend to see the epic band would agree! U2 has already been making headlines thanks to their epic stage setup. We know Las Vegas shows like Cirque du Soleil’s O have amazing stages, but U2’s stage, commonly referred to as “The Claw” reaches up to 160 feet in the air and requires 110 big rig trucks to dismantle and carry the spaceship-like structure around. The entire U2 360 production cost $750,000 a day to build and U2 has yet to break even on profit, yet the band members seem to be okay with that. After the 20+ years they’ve been together as a band, we’re sure they’ve got enough money! The band has admitted to enjoying the entire artistic aspect of the large stage to the press before, and they are expected to start making profit when the second leg of the tour continues in 2010. There were plenty of stars out at the Sam Boyd Silver Bowl Stadium over the weekend to see U2. The Black Eyed Peas opened up for the band, a decision most U2 fans found strange. Despite the weird combo the feedback has been good and fans have said the Black Eyed Peas get the crowd pumped with their high-energy music and leave them ready for the legendary rock band. Paris Hilton was there, as was George Maloof, the owner of The Palms hotel. The Las Vegas Sun reported Pen Jillette, currently headlining at the Rio with his own magic show, was backstage playing guitar with The Edge before the concert. The guest of honor at this amazing concert was none other than President Bill Clinton, who showed up at the stadium with his daughter, Chelsea. U2 were big supporters of Clinton’s charity initiatives and even played at the dedication of Bill Clinton’s library. "I've been a U2 fan for many years. They were instrumental in getting my Global Initiative started, and they performed at the dedication of my library." President Clinton told The Las Vegas Sun. After Las Vegas, U2 headed to California where they played a concert at the Rose Bowl that was broadcasted in a live stream via YouTube to people all over the world. While there were 95,000 people at the Rose Bowl, imagine how many people watched the show live! U2 will continue to tour throughout 2010 hitting more North American cities and cities across Europe. If you’ve never seen them live, you should definitely check them out!
