It seems that more and more celebrities are becoming entrepreneurs these days with celebrity owned LAX, Company, and many others that seem to be popping up on the Strip almost every other day. After finding success with one of the most profitable tattoo shops in Las Vegas, action superstar Carey Hart is now looking to capitalize on the Las Vegas nightlife scene as well. However, Wasted Space at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino isn’t your average ultra-lounge. Hart has decided to head an entirely new direction with his new club and open up the stage for indie and punk rock fans as well as its creators. The concept behind Wasted Space is to create a new type of club without velvet ropes or private booths. Wasted Space will be just a chill place for music lovers to come together, mingle, and basically just “rock out."
A Las Vegas native, Carey Hart is a motocross champion and is the first rider ever to complete a black flip on a 250cc motorcycle. Hart has gained much publicity for his marriage to pop rock singer, Pink. They were married in Costa Rica in 2005 and separated in February 2008 after a public announcement. Pink filed for divorce two days later. Besides his many credits as a rider, Hart has also signed for multi-million dollar ad campaigns with corporations like Ford and Mountain Dew. Hart was also featured in a Kid Rock video where he jumped over him on his bike. He also appeared briefly in the Charlie’s Angel’s II. After taking a hiatus from his riding, Hart teamed up with John Huntington and opened the very successful Hart and Huntington Tattoo Company which is the first ever tattoo parlor located directly inside a Las Vegas hotel. Hart was already known for his outrageous tattoos which entirely cover upper body. Celebrities and Joe Shmoe’s alike have been known to frequent this place and it is said that it’s nearly impossible to get an appointment unless you are an A-lister. The tattoo parlor was even featured on the A&E reality show, INKED. Hart and Huntington has since become a franchise and with that success under his belt, Hart has decided to take on the nightlife business.
The club will be upscale and sophisticated but will take on an edgy punk rock feel. The ultra lounge philosophy is rarely mixed with the alternative rock crowd, but success seems to be in the cards for this unlikely pair. With the ever changing Las Vegas nightlife scene, people are constantly looking for something new and different. The Grand Opening for Wasted Space is scheduled for July. This 5,000 square foot lounge is trying to achieve an exclusive backstage atmosphere like you would find at any rock concert.
While the absence of dance music and fruity martinis may scare away a few, the club will bring a refreshing change to the scene and might bring out music fans that thought that they weren’t into nightclubs at all. Wasted Space might just bring people back to what nightclubs were once really all about—the music.
