Before Las Vegas was known as The Entertainment Capital of the World it was known as the place where mobsters ruled. That’s right, just about everything you visit today including Las Vegas nightclubs, Las Vegas casinos, and Las Vegas hotels were all run by gangsters. While I’m sure that image conjures up scenes straight out of “Goodfellas,” the mob’s interaction with the city, although often times violent, wasn’t all bad. And since the organized crime was such a big part of Las Vegas’ history, it’s only fitting the city pays tribute with the Las Vegas Mob Tour.
Based on the stories found in the popular mob book “The Battle for Las Vegas” written by Dennis Griffin and personal interviews from Dennis Arnoldy, retired FBI Special Agent, The Las Vegas Mob Tour offers an insider’s look at how the mob really influenced Sin City and the crimes they had to commit to make it what it is today. The Las Vegas Mob Tour takes passengers back to Las Vegas circa 1970 when the mob influence on the city was at its peak and just about everything was run by organized crime. The 2.5 hour bus ride will take you to the sites where murders, strange disappearances and mob activity occurred. Along the way your tour guide, appropriately dressed in pinstriped suits and fedoras will tell the eerie stories of some of the mischievous and downright sordid things that the mob was responsible for at the time. Some of the mobsters you’ll learn about include the notorious gangster/casino builder Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel as well as other infamous family members such as mob enforcer Tony “The Ant” Spilotro, who helped turn the town into the bustling resort-filled place it is today; mob boss Sam “Momo” Giancana, and former mobster-turned-government-witness Frank “King Cat” Cullotta, who has actually provided his personal insights of his time as a mobster in Las Vegas to Vegas Mob Tour guides. While learning what each gangsters’ role was and how they helped shape Las Vegas is a fascinating part of the tour, what’s even more interesting is the celebrity deaths, suicides and many unsolved mysteries believed to be orchestrated by the mob that you’ll learn about as you travel through the mob’s many hot spots If you don’t want to end up swimming with the fish, you can find discounted Mob Tour tickets right here on Best of Vegas.
