Betty White inducted into NAB Hall of Fame
|
When 100,000 experts, celebrities and exhibitors from multimedia attended the National Association of Broadcasters event, you know they’ll be some interesting moments. The 2012 NAB Show started here yesterday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Among the stars was “Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher who spoke at the opening of the convention yesterday.
And as much as we love Teri Hatcher, it is seven-time Emmy Award winner and recent pop culture sensation Betty White that receives honors. The 90-year-old actress best known for her roles in “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame today. And with 60-plus years of television experience behind her, it’s no wonder White was chosen for the prestigious honor. NAB President Gordon Smith said of White, “She has remarkable energy still and an incredible ability to connect with viewers. Her contributions to television and entertainment are extraordinary.”
Also being inducted into the NAB Hall of Fame today is Hollywood actor, director, writer, and producer Garry Marshall. Award-winning director James Cameron is also on-hand today for discussions. And who better to talk about the advancements in 3D than the director who recently re-mastered his hit film “Titanic” in 3D than James Cameron himself.
Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond will be supporting one of today’s events. I should warn you though, Donny won’t be singing or dancing at today’s proceedings, (if you want to see Donny sing and dance, you’ll have to check out his variety show with his sister Marie at the Flamingo Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.) he will instead be delivering today’s keynote speech at the Radio Luncheon, which is just as exciting!
And speaking of Strip stars, Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller at the Rio is still going strong on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice! Make sure you tune in to NBC on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. to see how the comedic magician is fairing against the other celebrities. Could Penn be the next Celebrity Apprentice? We’ll just have to wait and see. If you’re more interested in seeing Penn perform live on stage in his spectacular show with partner Teller you can catch the pair every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 p.m. at the Penn & Teller Theater in the Rio
That’s all of the Strip star news I have for today but I’m sure I’ll have plenty more for you tomorrow! I’ll see you then.
Stay tuned for more news on celebrities who are in town for the National Association of Broadcasters convention.
