The Mirage Las Vegas is making quite a splash with the addition of a bottlenose dolphin calf. The energetic female was born July 17, 2017 at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.
Both the mother, named Huf n Puf, and her calf, who has yet to be named, are doing well. Immediately after being born underwater the baby swam to the surface to take her fist breath.
Huh n Puf and the baby are in the attraction’s birthing and research pool, which is open to the public during operating hours. Officials say the calf is nursing normally and bonding with her mother, grandmother and aunt. Together, these females represent three generations of dolphins at The Mirage. Lightning, the calf’s father, is located in another pool.
Visitors can see the calf from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
“We invite guests to see the calf and discover how our conservation efforts today will help preserve these beautiful animals in the wild for future generations to enjoy,” David Blasko, the resort’s director of animal care, said in a news release.
