The Flamingo Las Vegas is showing what it’s like to be a part of the “green” movement by teaching sustainability on Thursday, July 19 by way of Dartmouth College’s Big Green Bus. The sustainable bus will be making a stop at the Las Vegas hotel to refuel with recycled waste vegetable oil from the Flamingo’s restaurants as well as spread some sustainability knowledge. The Big Green Bus is a repurposed Greyhound that runs on 290 gallons of waste vegetable oil and transports 13 Dartmouth College students 12,000 miles across 24 states educating individuals about sustainability. Caesars guests and employees interested in learning more about the best sustainability practices can take a tour the bus, which provides educational opportunities through four sustainability stations including an interactive map telling stories of sustainability across the country, a demonstration of how people can build and shop for environmentally friendly products, a discussion about energy cost of food, personal waste reduction and even see a stationary bicycle that powers a generator to light multiple energy efficient bulbs. This will be the third year in a row, Caesars has sponsored the Big Green Bus and to mark the occasion Las Vegas headliner Donny Osmond as well as Rick Mazer, regional president of Caesars Entertainment will welcome the eco-friendly ride as it pulls up in front of the Flamingo. Throughout the hour that it is parked at the Flamingo, both Donny and Grazer as well as Remington S. Franklin, communications liaison for Big Green Bus will be holding interviews to answer any questions guests might have about the bus or its sustainability practices. Caesars Entertainment, which the Flamingo is a happily part of, has long prided themselves on good sustainability practices. In 2011, the company recycled 320,000 gallons of restaurant cooking oil to be re-used at its resorts, or removed and repurposed for use in other products. The Green Bus is just one of hundreds of responsible green practice programs Caesars Entertainment takes part in each year. You can learn more about what you can do to be more sustainable and how the Big Green Bus runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Flamingo. And afterwards make sure you support Donny Osmond and his “green” efforts by watching his show with his sister, Marie at the Flamingo Showroom at 7:30 p.m. You can find discounted Donny and Marie tickets right here on Best of Vegas.
