Mainstream Vegas: Tim Allen
|
Funnyman and actor Tim Allen returns to the Venetian this Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 but don’t expect him to be wielding any tools or PG humor. Unlike his character in the hit ABC sitcom “Home Improvement” or “Last Man Standing”, Tim Allen’s standup at the Venetian is much funnier and a little less kid-friendly!
It may be hard to imagine Tim Allen as anything other than Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor or the voice of Buzz Lightyear from the hit Disney/Pixar series “Toy Story” but despite his many television and film roles, the comedian has always had a thing for standup. It all started in 1975 when Allen participated in a comedy night at a comedy club in Michigan on a dare from one of his friends. Allen quickly discovered he had a talent and began performing in comedy clubs on a regular basis and even appearing on local television commercials and cable comedy shows. Eventually, Allen decided to test out his comedic chops with the big guns and headed west to L.A. where he became a member of The Comedy Store there.
He finally got his big break in 1991 when he was cast for the show that would make him a household name “Home Improvement.” On the show, Allen proved that he was both funny and a talented actor, winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series and eight consecutive People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Male Television Performer.
His award-winning role on “Home Improvement” led him to the big screen where he shined there too in such successful movies as Disney’s “The Santa Clause,” “The Santa Clause 2” and “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.” In 1995 Allen lent his voice to the character Buzz Lightyear for the Disney/Pixar film “Toy Story” and its two sequels “Toy Story 2” and “Toy Story 3.”
In addition to his stand-up career and film and television roles, Allen proved he could be funny on paper too when he wrote his first book “Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man,” which topped New York’s Best Seller List. He followed up his first book with another best seller titled, “I’m Not Really Here” published just two years later.
Allen is a part of the Venetian’s hilarious lineup of comedians that also include celebrity impersonator and former Las Vegas headliner Frank Caliendo, “Saturday Night Live” alum David Spade and the sharp-tongued Rita Rudner.
From stand-up comedian to television and film star to best-selling author and back again, Tim Allen is one of the most-successful and funniest people in Hollywood and you can see him live at the Venetian this Friday and Saturday night with discounted tickets right here on Best of Vegas.
