Million Dollar Quartet Opens Tonight at Harrah’s Las Vegas

It was December 4, 1956 and the Sun Records Studio in Memphis was about to become home to one of the greatest jam sessions in history. Thanks to the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” Sam Philips, four legendary musicians, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley were brought to the studio for the first and only time -  until now. The four musicians have come to Harrah’s Las Vegas in the musical the Million Dollar Quartet and it promises to be just as spectacular as it was that fateful night in 1956.

Million Dollar Quartet brings that legendary night to life with a story that goes far beyond the music and into the broken promises, secrets, betrayal and celebrations of the four men. Along the way, audiences will hear an eclectic score of rock, gospel, R&B and country songs including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Fever,” “Matchbox,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” “ Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire” among others.

One of the most famous photographs in American history is of these four musicians gathered around a piano, and that’s exactly how the show will open tonight at Harrah’s. Even if you are not a baby boomer and don’t remember this legendary event, or don’t know any of the names besides Elvis Presley, Million Dollar Quartet is sure to ignite the rocker in you. Plus, with Elvis in the production, it fits right into Las Vegas’ obsession with the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and is sure to lure in people of all ages just to see if the actor portraying him can belt out “Blue Suede Shoes” like Presley did all those years ago.
And if the appearance of Elvis Presley doesn’t have you running to Harrah’s tonight, maybe this will – Million Dollar Quartet first premiered in Chicago before wowing audiences on Broadway in 2010. The production then transferred Off-Broadway and played until June 2011 But before it left Broadway, it won a Tony Award (for Featured Actor Levi Kreis as Lewis) and received Tony nominations for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical, a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Musical Revue and three Drama League nominations including Distinguished Production of a Musical and two Distinguished Performance nominations.
