If Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas could be described through one song it’d have to be “Don’t stop ‘til you get enough!” That’s because the Montreal entertainment company is bringing another Michael Jackson show to The Entertainment Capital of the World (that’s two in 2 years if you’re counting) “Michael Jackson ONE.” And if it’s anything like “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour,” which is currently in Italy, it will be another “Thriller” (I had to)!
Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre announced yesterday that the company’s newest production will start preview performances May 23 at Mandalay Bay
, the same Las Vegas hotel that housed “Immortal” in 2011. Michael Jackson ONE won’t officially premiere until June 29.
If you loved the Immortal Tour then wait until you get to chance to see Michael Jackson One; the Jackson’s estate co-executor John Branca assures ONE, like Michael will be completely unique. "What we want to do is not clone 'The Immortal' show. That would not be Michael's way. He was a groundbreaker, he was a pioneer, and he was innovative. We want to create a new show, and we think it will be dazzling."
Daniel Lamarre also told reporters, “This show will be very, very different.” He said his company put considerable time into efforts to find “a home for Michael Jackson in Las Vegas.”
So how will it be different from “Immortal?” The show is based around four misfits who are guided and inspired by Jackson’s music. Incorporating Cirque’s usual acrobatics, aerialists and high-flying fun the misfits will take an acrobatic and theatrical journey that, according to the show’s website, will teach them “agility, courage, playfulness, and love.” Along the way we hope to be treated to Michael’s biggest hits and famous dance moves because it’s just not a Michael Jackson tribute show if neither are included.
Also unlike “Immortal,” ONE will remain a permanent residency in Las Vegas, which is sure to thrill Jackson die-hards.
Cirque du Soleil never does anything small, but I have a feeling “Michael Jackson ONE” will be bigger, better and more explosive than any other tribute show the company has ever created. Now we’ll just have to wait and see!
Stay tuned for more details on Cirque’s newest production, “Michael Jackson ONE” and its preview performances in May. Tickets are expected to go on sale March 6.
