Only in Vegas: Hula Hoops in Cirque’s Zumanity
|
In any typical Cirque du Soleil show guests are treated to incredible acrobatic feats, world-class athletes, and intense choreography you won’t believe. Each show is usually jam packed with jumping, leaping, twisting, flipping and sometimes even a little clowning. But usually absent in the Cirque productions is the anything steamy in nature, except of course when it comes to the Las Vegas production Zumanity at New York –New York. Zumanity is where Cirque lets down its hair and that is evident throughout the production, including in the show’s title - Zumanity: the Sensual Side of Cirque.
And sensual it is as Zumanity oozes sex and teases the audience with provocative numbers and sultry dancing that teeters on the side of fantasy and role-playing. Unlike other Cirque shows, Zumanity follows no storyline but instead takes guests inside different realms of sexuality where unique characters perform varying sensual acts from flirtatious dances to full on suggestive moves. And while the entire production is one you’d only find in Vegas, there is one particular act that involves a sexy schoolgirl outfit and a hula hoop that is sure to wow you.
The schoolgirl act falls into the more flirtatious category of acts in Zumanity and involves a young woman who shows off her hula hoop talents by effortlessly swaying her hips in quick circles, keeping the hula hoop above her waist. After showing the audience she can hang with the best of hula hoopers the young woman proves her hula hoop expertise by continuing to move the hula hoop on her hips but this time by holding on to a rope attached to the ceiling. And to make the act even more incredible, the young woman isn’t just performing from high above the stage with one hula hoop, she’s twisting and twirling dozens of hula hoops at once. She gracefully twists and poses all while continuing to spin her hula hoops and all while doing it without having her feet on the ground!
While the hula hoop girl (Julia Kolosova) sexy, provocative, and seductive, her incredible act sticks to Cirque’s original theme of showcasing incredible human feats. And with her barely their schoolgirl outfit it fits the criteria for Zumanity too! And let’s face it; where else are you ever going to see a uniformed school girl hanging from the ceiling twirling dozens of hula hoops around her waist while posing for an audience? This kind of thing only happens in Vegas!
