Ride the Wave with “Surf the Musical” at Planet Hollywood

Among partying at Gallery Nightclub, watching Holly Madison tease the audience in the sexy burlesque show “Peepshow”, and soaking up the sun poolside at one of the sexiest pool parties on the Strip at Pleasure Pool, Planet Hollywood has added surfing to its entertainment lineup. That’s right; you can now ride the waves and enjoy the summer with the beach fun, music and bikinis of the 1960’s in the new production “Surf the Musical.”

Using the music of the Beach Boys, “Surf the Musical” takes audiences on a nostalgic trip back to the 60’s in Southern California where sand, surf and music are the only thing you need to have a good time. But it’s not all fun and games when aspiring musician Tanner returns to his sleepy beachside home after venturing out in hopes of making it in the big city only to learn that his one-time love Brooke has fallen into the arms of his former band mate and new rival Rip. What ensues is a classic love story reminiscent of “Grease” and “Mamma Mia” where breaking out into song and dance is normal and the underlying theme is that love conquers all no matter the circumstance.

Along the way audiences will be transported back to the hot summer days of the 1960’s where dozens of Broadway performers don itty bitty yellow polka dot bikinis, ride surfboards, perform classic 1960’s dance moves like the Twist and Watusi and sing and perform to over 20 of The Beach Boys most popular hits including  “California Girls,” “Do You Wanna Dance?,” “Good Vibrations,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” “I Get Around,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Surfin’ USA” and so much more for a night that will have you toe-tapping, dancing and reminiscing about those lazy summer days of your youth, regardless of whether you grew up in the 60’s or not. The only thing missing is a nice tropical drink, which you can probably order during the show!

And if all of that doesn’t make you wish you were sitting in the sand watching the waves roll in, maybe the 130-plus 60-inch TV monitors mounted onto five moveable walls that display beach scenes will. Providing a realistic 3D backdrop for you and the cast, you’ll feel like you’re surrounded by the ocean and the fun that comes with it instead of sitting in a theatre.

You can catch the “Surf the Musical” wave for less with discounted tickets right here on Best of Vegas. The new musical performs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on select nights in the CHI Showroom at Planet Hollywood.
