There’s something happening in Las Vegas and it involves big hair, leg warmers, spandex mini skirts, fingerless gloves, thriller jackets and shoulder pads. It’s 1980’s-inspired shows and attractions that are like so totally rad dude and so totally worth seeing. Here are the most awesome ‘80’s productions the Strip may ever see:
MJ LIVE – If your 1980’s were filled with Thriller jackets and glittery gloves than you’ll love hearing Michael Jackson’s hits including “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” “Bad” and much more when a Michael Jackson tribute artist brings the “King of Pop” to life with all of his signature moves, songs and more at the Rio. You can moonwalk with MJ Live all week long at 8:30 p.m. at the Crown Theater.
Rock of Ages – Rock your way back three decades and experience the biggest rock songs of the 1980’s with Rock of Ages coming to the Venetian on Dec. 18. This Broadway hit and five-time Tony Award nominated musical tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit and Sherrie, a small-town girl, who both find themselves in L.A. to chase their dreams of hitting it big. Along the way they fall in love and rock out to 28 incredible 1980’s rock hits including “Don’t Stop Believing,” “We Built This City,” “The Final Countdown,” “Here I Go Again,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “I Want to Know What Love is” and much more.
Divas Las Vegas – This show at The Quad, formerly Imperial Palace, features every popular female singer from the 1970’s and on, including your favorite pop stars from the most bodacious decade of all like Madonna, Cher, Tina Turner and more. Plus, it’s a drag show and nothing screams 1980’s like men dressing up as glamorous women and singing in front of a live audience! Divas Las Vegas really is one of the most entertaining shows on the Strip and one that is sure to satisfy your 1980’s diva needs.
Legends in Concert – Just like Divas Las Vegas, Legends in Concert at The Quad, formerly Imperial Palace, rounds up the hottest singers and stars from the 1980’s for one grand celebrity impersonator show you won’t believe. Get ready to hear hits from such celebrity look-alikes as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Rod Stewart and many more. These artists are so impressive it’s hard not to believe Madonna and Michael aren’t really on stage.
** Legends in Concert will be moving to the Flamingo after Dec 30th, 2012.
Manheim Steamroller – Not technically an ‘80’s-themed show or even a tribute ‘80’s band, Mannheim Steamroller will still take you back with their 1980’s electronic beats as they take classic Christmas songs and turn them on their heads.
Evil Dead The Musical – Zombies are all the rage these days but the flesh eating monsters actually gained popularity in the 1980’s with the movie Evil Dead. And now the hit film has come to the stage with Evil Dead the Musical at the V Theater in Planet Hollywood. This chainsaw wielding, bloody show is more funny than horrific and it will take you back to the original 1980’s movie but with a campy Rocky Horror Twist!
Goretorium – And speaking of gore, if you’re enjoyed the slasher gore films the1980’s there’s no better place to get your fill of fake blood, guts, brains and terror than at Las Vegas’ first full-time haunted house of horrors at the Goretorium at Planet Hollywood.
