Is Shania Twain Las Vegas’ newest sweetheart? The country superstar welcomed a triumphant return to The Colosseum stage at Caesars Palace last week after an eight-year touring hiatus. And her new show, “Still the One” isn’t just another concert, it’s a full on theatrical production with incredible props, animals, dancing and of course Shania’s gorgeous voice and biggest hits. So far her shows have all been sold-out and now the “queen of country music” is gracing the cover of this month’s Vegas Magazine. In an the magazine she discusses how fellow Caesars Palace headliner Celine Dion changed the perception of singers in Las Vegas by creating a state-of-the-art show, and what an honor it is to be invited to perform here.
“To be invited to do it, that’s quite an honor. Vegas is the Mecca right now for the most qualitative performing arts anywhere in the world. There are huge numbers of country music fans, and they deserve to come to Las Vegas to see the top, first-class spectacles in their genre,” said Twain.
In other country star news, Country stars shopped ‘til they dropped at Backstage Creations; Celebrity Retreat during the 2012 American Country Awards at Mandalay Bay on Monday. The stars included Best New Artist winner Lauren Alaina and singer Jana Kramer. Co-host Kristin Chenoweth was also at the shopping extravaganza as was Kimberly Shiapman of Little Big Town and Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocks. Breakthrough Artist of the Year Jake Owen bought a McFadin baby diaper for his wife and three-week old and San Francisco Giants star Barry Zito checked out the shirts from Resistol.
Also enjoying Mandalay Bay’s atmosphere was singer-songwriter Pauline Reese as she stayed cool at Minus5 Ice Bar at the Las Vegas hotel.
Strip stars got into the holiday mood this week when Rio headliners Penn & Teller joined their Strip showbiz friends at Caesars Entertainment for a sing-along wishing everybody good tidings and cheer for the holidays. Other Strip shows and performers in the video, which involved them all singing a version of “12 Days of Christmas,” included Matt Goss, Jubilee! showgirls, Divas Las Vegas at Imperial Palace, several hunks from Chippendales, Peepshow at Planet Hollywood hotties, Absinthe stars, Jersey Boys, Donny & Marie Osmond among others.
And speaking of Strip stars, Chippendales studs and “The Amazing Race” contestants, Jaymes Vaughn and James Davis held a kissing booth at their “Kiss for a Cure” benefit at the Act in the Palazzo yesterday. Cast members from Fantasy, Jubilee! and Vegas! The Show were all there for the fundraiser for Jaymes’ father Ed’s cancer battle.
